Skiing Backward Through Trees

I am currently in Montreal wearing a Salomon ski shirt that has the saying "Skiing backwards since 1997" on it. Some American kid from Long Island, New York just walked up to me and asked if my shirt meant what he thought it meant. I was a little confused and let him read my shirt. He then says to me, "Where I'm from, skiing backwards means you're gay. In the states, the saying "skiing backwards through trees," means you are hoping to get a tree branch stuck up your ass." I have NEVER heard this before being from Canada so is it actually a legitimate saying in the states anywhere?

I'm still a little bit taken aback, i was standing with my girlfriend and he asked me if I was gay aha

that's why i never call it skiing backwards, but switch or fakie...
