Moving to tahoe- lots of questions

 I have enough money to get myself set up with a place for 6 months and all I really want to do is ski and have a good time. I do need to find a job and its late. I have turned in applications to a bunch of resorts but haven't called them or anything. But what I'm worried about most is buying a pass. I have the money for any one that i want but i dont want to spend the extra money if its not worth it. The double whammy sierra and northstar pass seems to be the best deal but it seems like I might be happier with other ones. Also is living near mammoth out of the question for a middle class dude like myself?

Live in Truckee. Its pretty cheap and there are some good deals if you room with someone. Also, passes at Squaw are on sale I think. I bought mine early this year so I got a good price on a gold pass. No blackout dates or any of that bullshit. Also, try the restaurants, but do it fast, cause they usually get job applications out the gazoo during the winter months.

Blue Coyote, Java Sushi, Truckee Pizza, etc. are a few good ones to apply to. Also, if you're good with skis, try applying to Granite Chief.

Hey thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. the squaw gold pass i think would be 1300 for me now which is pretty damn high. Should I even bother with mammoth?

I know northstar has a job fair coming up on November 6th, and from what i hear its pretty easy to get a job and you can live in employee housing there, and its super close to northstar. But if you're not feeling Northstar as a mountain you can always look at alpine, its super close to northstar and Alpine is a kick ass mountain. I rode there the past three years, dope ass powder days, sweet runs, cliffs, and a terrain park that is getting better by the year.

And Squaw also has employee housing and its pretty nice from what I've seen of it. But the management is a bunch of jackasses. And you'd get a free pass if you worked at those resorts.

One downside to working at a resort though, you have to work on pow days.

Living near mammoth is not as expensive as you might think, especially if you can get a roomie. I could see why you would want to live in Tahoe (mutiple mtns, beautiful views, close to reno etc) but personally I still prefer Mammoth.  The town is comapct, free public transportaion and no real mountain driving. Also when you work for a mountain you can generally get discounted if not free tickets to others.  And it really isn't too late to get a mountain job, you just got to call and bug them.  Good luck in whatever you ebd up doing!

dont get a double whammy. you came to tahoe to ski real mountains right? Get something to Squaw or Alpine. And if youre goin to try and work, get a mid week pass, its cheaper. youre not goin to wanna go on the mountain during the weekends anyways cause its goint to be a zoo and you'll be working.

I ski 95 percent park and in reality i think I'm looking for a night job. I'd like to work at the mountain but I don't think I'm going to like whatever job I can squander there anyway. Thats why I'm thinking I may be better off in south lake because of the night life.
