coming from someone who is doing a half schedule in college because im gone for a week every other week so i just cant do a full schedue. college is full of a bunch of idiots. like 95% of the kids ive met or see every day cannot function properly anywhere outside of a textbook. they sacrifice any real life experiences or common sense for good grades. i know more "smart" kids that arent going to college than people who are.
now there are plenty of exceptions, people going because they really want to learn about something that they want to pursue as a career, usually these are the people getting like c's or b's on everything. they could probably do fine without college but the careers they are interested require college. id say i see maybe one or two of these people a day.
but the huge majority are just going because its expected. they think that college = high paying job. and they wouldnt have the common sense or imagination to make it past working at a burger king on their own.
and for those people college might be a good thing, because they have to rely on it to get anywhere in life.
people say you can either go to college or work a 9-5. but if your smart, have common sense and some imagination you dont have to work a 9-5. it doesn't have to suck. the only reason im considering dropping out of college is because i dont see it getting me any job i would even remotely want. i do not want to be working for someone inside a box for 10 hours. i want to own my own business, work somewhere outdoors, do something exciting, help other people etc... and college is only holding me back from doing any of those things. i honestly believe i would be a much happier person right now and in the long run if i wasn't going to college.
i know a kid who dropped out of highschool, and in a couple years he has gone to europe and australia all on his own money, with just a backpack of clothes and stuff and basically hitchhiked/ walked both for 4 months. he's saved enough money to buy a sailboat now that he's preparing to sail around the world. which he's gonna do next year after he has alot more experience sailing. in like 2 years, he has made enough money to do all these things, which cost probably 30,000 + when you include the sailboat, live on his own in a pretty sick house for a 20 year old, buy his own car food etc.. he has worked maybe a total of 10 months between two years, because he just knows how to make money grow, where to put it etc.., the only jobs he had he loved because they were exciting. its like working doesnt exist for him, all this and he dropped out of highschool.
so in short, if your just gonna be working a 9-5 6 days a week for the rest of your life if you drop out, maybe stick with college. but if you feel that college is holding you back from doing things you would enjoy, and being successful then maybe you should drop out.
