Skiing without brakes

are you allowed on a mountain without brakes? cause i cant get my brakes fixed for another month but my friend wants me to go skiing with him in a few weeks

it depends where you live, but if it is illegal, you could easily make a leash. And how broken is it?

its frowned upon sometimes if you loose your ski and it goes down the whole mountain your gonna get sent home and if you hit someone or almost ski patrol will flip shit and threaten to take your pass but you should be fine as long as you can catch it and be aware that it could go flying if you loose it

I hate skiing at park city without brakes because I'm pretty confident if my ski hit someone there I would get sued and heavily buttfucked.

i would hate to ski without brakes, one wrong/stupid move and your ski is going down the hill waaay faster than you can ski with one foot.. maybe just make a ghetto little leash?

just take an old shoe lace and tie it to a boot buckle and to the break/binding. this is what i usually do in powder anyways so they dont submarine

haha my friend at windells had a broken brake and you think that ohh the park is not that steep i can get away without a brake and his ski went soaring down and into the diggers tent it just took off so fast. so i would definitely try to get that fixed before going skiing

my friend asked his coach the same question an the coach told him that one guy was skiing withno brake, he fell, his ski came off, it went down the hill, hit a bump and cut open a dog belonging to a person down at th loadge.

if you still want to just think of this, and if it is completly necessary, make a leash or crank up your dins

if you are skiing park don't make a leash because falling and getting tangled in it sucks and if you wrap around it wrong could actually hurt you. I skied without a brake for like 2 weeks once because I was on the road and didn't want to pay when I know I could get a free one later. I chased my ski once. but if you are just freeskiing around a leash probably would be a good idea as long as it was decently long and you can tuck the slack up in your leg pow cuff.

you can ski without breaks but people dont like to see it. i skied the last 2 months without working breaks in one of my skis which was prob a good 30 times on the mountain if not more. from personal experience, i wouldnt recommend skiing without breaks because ive had my skis fly down the mountain a dozen of times which isnt fun and either you or your buddy has to go after it. ive also gotten yelled at stratton by a employee, but other than that i didnt get into trouble. you should be good just be careful because ive almost hit people a few times. good luck!

I have never skied without a brake, but mine always break on impact then the ski falls off and let me tell you, it's fucked. I didn't know where my ski went because how i fell, and I spent a solid hour searching for it.

Yeah I rode most of last season with no brakes on 1 ski. It's not my fault but FKS brakes just snap easily. I had a ski go flying down Kings Crown after a fall, and it actually made the left turn at the bottom, but luckily flipped over on the last jump before bombing through the high traffic area at the bottom where the trails merge. That could have been bad. But as far as getting in trouble, you can just say they snapped off when you fell.

I am going to be getting some, it is just a hassle to take the heel piece apart to replace them. If you have bindings that aren't FKS and can be replaces easily, I see no reason not to replace them right away.

Bindings don't work right without brakes. It's really not worth it. I did it once when I was young and dumb: I was stomping landings and still losing my ski, and using a leash just meant the ski hit me in the head after it detached. Most ski shops will just give you a new brake if that's all you need.

Story of my life. Sometimes I don't even fall. I just land switch a little nose heavy and all of a sudden I'm on one ski and eat shit a few seconds later with metal and plastic pieces everywhere and my ski nowhere to be found.

It's illegal at most mountains. My brakes on my old ski's used to not deploy all the time and I came out and my ski just started going down the mountain. Another guy in the park caught if, but the ski partrol took me to the bottom of the mountain and told me to go to the shop and get it fixed or put new brakes on or they were taking my off the hill.

Well I got free brakes, just go in and get some at a shop they usually will do it for free.

last winter my friend lost his ski doing a spin on the first jump of the park. the ski flew off his foot, landed on the landing, and flew off the second jump getting maybe 30 feet of air, and did the same on the third jump. it just hit the whole line haha, and didn't stop until the woods at the bottom

my brother carries rope with him because of all the brakes he broke last year and i would always end up chasing the ski into the woods yelling for people to watch out

dont do it mang. find some way to tether your gear. last day of the season at whis and my buddy's brake broke and he ejected after a jump and his ski went all the way down the mountain. never found the fuckin thing, probably still there. find some way to keep your stuff from running down the hill without you, losing gear sucks

yea but not a good idea... but how r they gunna take ur pass... u just say that it broke when u fell and that ur gunna fix it... it wouldnt be "your fault"

but seriously fix your brakes they save a bunch of time and frustration

ya dont do it i was skiing last year towards the end of the season and i did a nice big 5 off the last park jump and off came my ski and my binding (totally demolished my ski). but anywasy my ski went flying and i had to chase after it after i juss landed switch and i had to find the binding. long story short use brakes. my brakes worked but they flew off when i landed so ya haha!

Buy a new brake or two. Worth it cause you don't have to worry about skiing without one and you also don't have to find some chinsey way to secure your ski.

its usually a law at all ski hills but if your paranoid you can just use string attached to your boot and binding and that will work and you wouldnt get introble for not haveing breaks

my ski popped off and went to hit the roller of the next jump it missed the guy standing there by about 5 inches and it was going really fast. Im happy it didnt hit him because i know that he has some serious anger problems and probably would have sued me. Just get some brakes or a leash.

I've done it before twice (obviously didn't learn a lesson the first time) and had a ski come off and fly down the hill. Really scary shit. Just don't do it. + i you ski without them the pressure of your boot will usually break the metal clips that hook onto the breaks

done it alot just cause mine always seem tro break. its fine but ur bindings become a little shakey and it is not fun when u spend an hour looking for ur ski in the woods cause it ran away from u.

two years ago a kid at my mountain landed switch and had a runaway ski which cleared the next two jumps in the line then went all the way to the bottom of the slope, crossed the road, shot up the incline on the other side and jumped a row of cars in the parking lot. about a 1/4 mile trip.

uhm yah. you probably wont get in trouble unless your ski falls off. my friend fell hitting a rail and his ski flew off and hit a jump...it ended up stuck in a snowbank at the bottom of the mountain by the parking lot, hes really lucky nobody got murdered

Its funny to ski without breaks. Although sometimes you gotta be nervous for your skis. And if ski patrol gets mad just be like sorry it just broke and I didnt wanna leave my day at this great mountain so Im going to fix them when I get home. dont bitch at them. never works.

inverts are illegal also but i have ski'd with no brakes a few times just because they broke and it's not a big deal, in VT i would get new brakes when you can though

just get them fixed. last year at the stomp games rail jam i dropped my ski while hiking after first hit and my ski went down the hill. ski patrol saw it and wouldnt let me compete in finals cause of it

i skied all of last season with out breaks on one of my skis, looks like i am this season too. but i doubt you would get in much trouble if any. its definitely a pain in the ass though, it wont be as bad if you use a leash

dont do it man, I had a brake missing on my ski a couple of years ago, while the replacement was coming in the mail i made a makeshift leash, maybe get a snowboard leash? or a chain-type thing, shoelace? anything

First time at jay peak at least 5 foor dump in theee days first chair to beaver pond. 03/04 atomic tweaks. Broken left brake, did a front flip off of a drop landed screwy leaning forward. Both skis came off right dug sticling out cuz of brake, left nowhere to be found. Two hours later and hundreds of pole fishing attempts i stick the ski directly undermy carcus as i landed dug dowb enough to cover my body found my ski. Worst idea ever wait for new bake or tie a leash around ur heel piece

let's add that if you hit someone you can and probably will be sued!

think about this, you're out skiing, you crash and your ski falls off. when you find it at the bottom of the hill you find out that the ski hit someone and caused serious injury.

What did you do to your brake that requires a month to repair it?

I only ask because most brakes can be replaced pretty quickly and easily.

go to a shop and ask for a brake. We have boxes and boxes of brakes with no homes. But in Michigan = illegal to have no brakes & I'm pretty positive its the same here in CO. No one really checks it but its a rule for a reason.

only noobs use safety bars

i skied like 60 days last year in VT and never once put the bar down and never once got yelled at. it is not an enforced state law. the most that will happen is a patroller will kindly ask you to put the bar down
