How big? Not that this should discourage you, it's permanent so you should get it wherever you think it looks best, but the ribs do hurt like a fucking bitch, especially if you're skinny. The other reason I would recommend against the ribs, however, is because you will see it often and memorial tattoos can be pretty painful emotionally... might not be something you wanna see every day. Or maybe it is. That's your call, though.

Honestly though, the best thing to do would be to go into your shop and having them make a couple screen prints, most of them will do this anyways so they don't have to freehand it, and have them place it in the two spots you're looking at. Then you can decide by looking at it, which is obviously the best way.

I'm not in any way telling you that you shouldn't get it, but I know a kid who has a tattoo for a friend who died and he said he hates it because everyone talks to him about it and it makes him sad. He also knows someone else who died and was pissed when everyone else came up to him asking if he would get one for him too. I'm not going to tell you not to get it but just wanted to let you know you might go through that.

Now that that's out of the way I think it would be good on the back of your shoulder.

a kid in my grade got a tatoo in memory of his father in the center top of his back. its simple and just says rip his dads name and dates or somethig in cursive, id suggest something more like that, however the kid in my grade is 14...

got in a car accident on the way home from mount snow in 08 after an awesome day of shredding. i was sitting next to my best friend, he was killed instantly. skiing was our connection.

and to all of you who say its cliche or whatever, this is only a preliminary draft, and i want to have an artist touch it up (make the writing less girly, shade, etc..) and i want to get mountain peaks in the background of the tattoo.

i think putting on your ribs would be definitely unconventional and would probably look sick. i don't like when people get crosses on their arms or backs...kind of redundant. but hey. i'd opt for some more detail too, but an artist can help you with that, probably rework the banner so it's more balanced. the ribs will probably hurt a lot, so if you're a whimp and it's your first tat, maybe not! but i think you can do it!
