does it count toward your actual grade or does it count towards your work ethic? my teacher counts it as a grade which is fucking stupid. im failing math becuase i havent done any homework, but im getting perfect on all my quizzes. i think it should count towards work ethic
We have the ethic thing or math class. He doesn't care if you do it or not, but it is practice for quizzes and tests which are. I think it is a great idea
if it counts, do it. if not, skip it.
School doesnt just teach life basics, It teaches you to conform to what people tell you. If you think out side of the box, you will fail.
i didn't do any homework in math my entire highschool career. We would get marked on our homework, and that mark would go towards our overall grade. I attended class almost all the time, did my in class work, the lowest I would ever score on a test would be like 95%, usually get 98% or so. My teachers would always take me aside and ask my I'm not doing my homework... I would always give them the same answer. My mentality behind homework is this: Homework is extra work assigned to you so you have extra practice to really learn the equation that you are working on at the time. If your brain works the way mine did and you get the equation while still in class, and can remember said equation long enough so you can pass the test (and ultimately - the final exam), than the homework is not necessary for you to do.
Now, I have no problems keeping my overall grade above 50% while still getting a 0 for homework. So the fact that you say you are failing math because of not going homework along - I call bullshit on that. Come on - we're not your parents, tell use the truth, what else are you slacking off in? not attending class? not doing as good on the tests as you say you are? are you just straight up not doing any work, or are you simply just not really "there" while in class. You can't fail math by getting a 0 in an area that makes up, what, 10% (15% at the most) of your final grade.
im in grade 12 this year and this is the first time since grade 7 i've had a math teacher that checks homework. i'm very thankful she does, helps boost the grade and helps me understand better since i actually do the homework. my attitude in previous years has always been 'if i dont have to why bother?'
its not that i dont understand the work, becuase i understand all of it. i get perfect on all the quizzes. its way to fucking easy for a grade 10 math course
It counts towards your teacher wanting you to learn and absorb the material because your teacher cares about your education. You personally may be able to do well without completing the homework exercises, but other students perhaps wouldn't. The grades provide incentive for the less driven of this group to do the homework and thus learn better. There is an argument to be made that this is the wrong sort of negative incentive, but I suspect that it works.
Great logic there broseph. Any high school math homework is going to be easy. If you honestly think you should be exempt from being graded on homework because it's easy, you need a fucking reality check. Do your homework and get the points. If it's so easy, do it in like 10 minutes before school.
another reason I think you're bullshitting us, and your failing math for reasons beyond simply not doing your homework: In Grade 12 Physics, I attended class for the most part, did most of my work, did very well on tests... but, while I attended class for all the labs, I didn't actually do any of the paperwork associated with said labs. I was there, I did the lab, I learned the same as everyone else - I just didn't write anything down and hand it in. As the end of the year was approaching, I told my school I was not going to be around for exam time, and I had to write them earlier. This is when they called me down to the office to inform me that I would not be getting my Physics credit because I had a N/A (or whatever they called it) for the labs section. So even though my overall grade was above 50%, because I had an incomplete portion, they would not give me my credit. How did we settle this? It was a Friday, they gave me all the labs I did not finish, told me I had to have them all in by Monday. What did I do? I went home and purposefully wrote all the wrong answers for the labs and handed them in on Monday. My N/A turned into a 0 and I got my credit, got to write my exams early and everything worked out.
So again - why are you REALLY failing math. 'Cause there's no way it's simply because you're not doing your homework.
the weight of a homework grade should have an inverse coronation with the overall grade. If you have an A, homework shouldnt matter. If you have a D, you need the practice
uhhhhhhhhh doesn't 'not completing homework' kind of fall under 'poor work ethic'? it's not like homework is hard. stop slacking off, get off ns, and do something with your life before you piss it away and die a lonely, sad individual.
the reason there is such a thing as math homework is because it helps you practice the concepts that you are learning. if you learn something and understand something but never practice it your not going to be well suited to different situations involving the concept you think you understand. its pretty much like that with anything. if you learn how to 360 and land it smooth as butter your first couple times do you stop throwing them? no. you practice them so you can throw them off bigger shit. same goes for math.
all the answers are usually in the back of the book, i do my homework cause it counts for a huge part of my grade, i didnt turn something in one day and my grade dropped to a B, then when i turned it in the next day i had an A again. its gay as hell
My grade sucks because i dont do homework so im pissed he grades it, but then if he didn't and i did bad on a test theres no way to bring up my average so i hate math
same. i can see some people needing to do things multiple times to fully understand and remember but i only need to do it once or twice and ive got it, so i don't usually do math homework
last year we got 5 points, but this year it's only 2. and most of the time the bitch doesn't even check it, which is really annoying cuz i want my credit if i'm going to do 20 minutes of work
10 points each, but the teacher has us grade ourselves on if we do it or not so i get 10s on everything then get Cs on the tests but still keep an A in the class cause of all my 10s
my physics teacher is chill (he calls it math). He will let you skip, not do homework, go to the "bathroom" for 20 mins, do anything u want during labs, etc. but he just wont help u if u dont know whats going on, if you skip n shit. its dece loaft.
My highschool teachers would check it very few times a quarter. You had it every night, but if they only checked it four times and two of those times out didn't do it then you had a 50 in the homework category. Not sure how much it counted though.
Haha, I would kill to get credit for my homework now that I am in college, such an easy grade boost for something you should be doing anyways. Good news is in college you barley get any actual homework that is graded, bad news is that now you wish you got credit for it, and it has doubled in quantity now.
