If you buy them and they do have manufacturer defects surface is the most legit company out there and best customer service around, they will make it right with you.

30 days and the core snaps, who sounds to be at fault?
currently we're not even talking about the fact that my edges underfoot were completely gone after 6 days, that's a totally different story.

surface is complete shit. they don't care about their customers or keep their warranty promises. they've admitted to milling the cores on 09/10 nine lifes too thin, causing many of them to break. oh well my obviously broke for that reason, but yet they're not willing to warranty them. sounds like a quality company to me.

if i were you, i'd avoid surface like the plague.

You don't need to get mad at me because I have different views. I've owned 13 pair of surface, been skiing them since day one. Everyone that I know that has switched couldn't be happier. Everytime I've had a problem they stood behind everything. You can find these stories from anyone I've had problems with K2, rossignol,and liberty and they all had terrible customer service. I'm sorry you have had such a terrible experience but I would recommend surface to anyone.

They break pretty easily i have broken one pair and have another pair thats on the fringe and thats only from skiing on each for less then a month. The edges get worn out really quickly. I am skiing on the 172's and i'm about 5'6" and 135 lbs

I've said it once, I'll say it again.

I put 65 days on my Nine Lifes last winter, hitting rails every run of every day.

Then I lived at Hood all summer and rode 6 days a week from the beginning of June until the end of August, hitting rails every single run every day.

My edges have about six or seven small cracks in them, and some minor top sheet chipping.

They're also probably the most fun park skis I've ever ridden, lasting way longer than previous skis I've owned (Line, Armada, K2)

Oh, and I'm not from Utah.

joshua dont believe everything you hear. do your research and you will see the real truth. just because one person had bad luck with a pair of skis doesnt mean every pair made will have that same problem.

Lots of ski companies have run into durability complaints. Line has had a ton of kids complaining about crazy delam issues over the years, but they are still a great company. I have seen many Salomon skis peel into 2 pieces. Armada would have the ends of their edges start to pull out on a shit ton of their skis. Shit happens.

All that aside, I picked up a pair of Nine Lifes at the end of last season. I haven't put a ton of days on them yet, maybe 15 days. They feel solid on jumps and ski well. I am happy with them.

i snapped a pair of brand new demo nine lifes in 3 runs at hood. they were really fun skis while i had them but i only spent about 30 minuets or so on them. i heard that this years are way more durable with a thicker core though so i guess the durability will be better.

A buddy of mine landed on a box wrong and they snapped. The nine lifes have some problems but all their other skis are great and I have had great experiences with them.

So you ripped an edge sliding rails. (Which, no company will ever warranty rail damage, no matter how new).

And you kept skiing them, with the edge missing.

The missing edge left a large hole in the side of your ski, allowing water straight to your core.

After 10 months, that water got into your core, expanding, rotting, and softening the wood. You were either hitting a late summer glacier (rock hard snow) or a summer setup (my guess) and they finally failed.

I'm still waiting for the part where it's Surface's fault...

My friends have had some Surface One Lifes and New Lifes that both seemed like super nice and well made skis. On the other hand, I saw 3 pairs of Nine Lifes break in 2 days at Windells (demos). After having flexed and examined them, I came to the conclusion that they felt like very cheap and chinsey skis that I would be scared to ride on, which is confusing because all other Surfaces that I have seen and skied on were great.

you cant judge a company just by one ski. if it was a reoccuring problem in multiple models or years then i would look at the company and say they didnt know how to build a ski. but this is one model.

The link has already been posted twice. If you haven't read my thread yet please do so now.

Though I own no pair of sticks made by Surface, it's very clear that they are a customer warrented company. Like minded people who share a common interest with their customers - skiing.

My next pair of skis will without a doubt be Surface and I will purchase with zero hesitations about customer relations and honoring said warranty.

The fact is, Surface has warrented that the fault of the skis snapping is big_spence's responsibility. If that's what Surface says, I would damn well believe it. Seeing how quick they were to help someone out like me who only owns their team poles, I could only imagine how well they relate to their clientel who own actual Surface paraphernalia locked under their boots.

Fact is, don't hesitate to purchase from such an incredible company based upon one New Schooler who has complained about their Nine Lives in every single NS thread posted about Surface.

I say go for it. If for some reason the skis do have a manufacturer defect and fail on you, I'de be willing to bet my left nut they'de replace it with a smile and a sincere apology.
