Rogers and Baseball in Canada

well this thread has to be made to let you American folk know about how it is for baseball fans up here in Canada.
Tonight is the first game of the ALCS and the game is not on TV. This is because Rogers has monopolized baseball in Canada. Instead there is an NHL hockey game on - the 4th game of the season no less (Yeah i guess we are that stereotypical).
This has happened throughout the season as well, Rogers removed 50 Jays games from TV and put them on their 'specialty' channel that you have to pay extra for.
Where i live you either have Rogers Cable or Bell Cable (Bell customers cant even watch ANY Jays games since Rogers owns the Jays), so Rogers has complete control over how the Jays are broadcasts. Money WHORES
Compare jays to yankees: Jays are owned BY a cable company, Yankees OWN the YES network and make millions of dollars from it. What a joke
Hopefully somebody cares cause i am PISSED!
ATDHE.net until my laptop overheats and crashes i guess.

Fuck you man, I can't even watch Sportsnet in the summer because it's always showing baseball, the most boring mainstream sport ever created. If TV coverage was democratic they would NEVER show baseball in Canada. Tell me, are you against democracy?

I'd like to add, FUCK the rogers center. It's called the skydome. How dare they rename it.

Okay instead of being 'Democratic' which in this case equally benefits the company who makes more money, how about being fair and accommodating. Rogers bought 50 extra Maple Leafs games this year knowing full well that they would overlap with the MLB playoffs (which A LOT of ppl want to watch believe or not). Why did they buy these games though?
- For money, b/c yes more Canadians were watching the Leafs last night i agree. But in the past this has never been a problem because the Leafs would be on TSN or CBC and then the Baseball could be on Sportsnet. Rogers went out of their way to get extra hockey games for this year.
All about money.
These are the MLB PLAYOFFS, and they werent on TV.
thats a disgrace.
and your comment that they would NEVER show baseball in Canada is bullshit

They shouldn't? They're raking in the cash with the Jays. If it wasn't profitable, they wouldn't own it. Its all about money. Baseball is around because people are making money off it.

But how much do they choose to give to the Jays? thats the problem.
Compare with the Yankees - they own their TV station and the team gets all the profits. Thats because they had people who care about the team backing them (Steinbrener). Its not the same in Toronto, its backwards here

Jays payroll isnt an issue. Once the Jays win some games and fans actually go to games they'll be fine.

I heard that the jays actually have a good team. Yeeeeet the rogers center is always 3/4 empty. bummer.
I mean, how good can a game be to watch if they sell tickets for like 2 bucks.

bell customers cant watch ANY jays games. wat? jays games play on sportsnet and bell customers get sportsnet so ya...
and they decided to play hockey instead of baseball, that sounds fuckin fantastic to me, you wanna watch that shit just order the mlb network or whatever the fuck it is and stop crying. or just go to atdhe.net and watch it there.

Its because Canadians are fucking idiots and only care about hockey. Turn on sportcentre in the middle of summer and their top story is Kovalchuk's contract every night.

Sorry mate but the only people who care about baseball in Canada are from Toronto. And everyone dislikes Toronto anyways, even less than Newfies and Albertans.

Yeah, the whole rogers deal with sportsnet one etc. is a bunch of bullshit. I have all the sportsnets (other then SportsNet ONE) so I could see the ALCS game 1 and the Leafs game, but it's still wack as fuck.

It's because baseball is a joke of a sport that the majority of Canada doesn't feel like wasting their time watching.

Damn that sucks. Sorry about that man, Comcast down here is practically devoted to the Giants and bay area sports in general. I'm sure there is a live stream online, but nothing compares to watching it on TV.
All times are Eastern (-5)
