There's plenty of other "World Championships" for freeride skiing but there's always room for another in my book.

WESC isn't just another big mountain comp. It was the world extreme what revolutionized the sport as we know it, by promoting big mountain skiers like doug coombs, shane mcconkey and dean cummings. WESC also opened the eyes too many and changed the shape of skiing and skis you find on the market to day.

cool, didn't know that. just curious, was it one of the only big mtn comps around back then? it seems like it woulnd't be "the" comp anymore since there's so many now but then again, i don't follow the comp scene too much. i just love watching the CO Freeride tour when it rolls through Snowmass.

I can't remember if there was any other big mountain comps around in the earlier days of the world extreme.
