Making a Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Club at school

Like the title says either tomorrow or next week I will be asking the Principle if my friends an I can create a freestyle club at my school. Im basically doing this so it looks good for college because im not the smartest kid. Reason I am posting this is is because I need ideas for what we would do in these so called meetings. What would you wanna see from your freestyle club?

watch ski/snowboard movies. arrange carpools or open gym or something...

for the first meeting just explain what its about and go from there

ski together obviously make edits, and or full length movies to sell ppl for fundraiser/pass money. go to movie premiers together, watch movies togetherand organize some big trip somewhere

thanks for the ideas right now im thinking make edits, have fundraisers to go towards a trip, chill, rail jam?, talk about skiing, summer set ups, open gym/ tramp sesh's pretty much just have it so kids can ski with other people.
digging the input but my principle hates me so not sure if this by itself will work so i still kinda need more things thanks for all the input so far.

yea i think just talking about what you guys like and dislike in the sport weather it'd be athletes styles or certain tricks that would be cool..... i wanted to do the same thing in my school but i'd just be action sports but my principle turned it down because there was "no value" in the club.... i was pissssseeeddd

thats what i was thinking... i think he meant that theres no like learning or skill you get from doing that club but what do u really learn/do in school clubs anyways

biggest concern (depending on where you live) is gonna be transportion and getting people to join. My ski team's in their 2nd year as a club.

It also helps to get a coach/sponsors

I started a bike club at my old highschool. We walked around and broke the locks on bikes that had been locked up and abandoned, parted them and made a sweet bike.

I'd just build a ballin' summer setup and have the meeting there. then in the winter just go do urban "missions" or whatever you wanna call them.

My school district just added a competitive ski and snowboard team to each school. Five competition days with three venues: GS, snowcross, and Slopestyle. Damn I'm stoked.

Organise membership benefits such as:
-Discounts to a gym
-Discounts at local ski shop (in exchange for advertising on club t-shirts, cards, ect)
-Car pooling to the mtn
-Tramp/Pool sessions
-Ski movie screenings
-Events such as railjams/parties
-Ski tuning facilities

First thing to do would be to write up a proposal for sponsorship/funding and talk to some potential sponsors (even if it is just discounts @ places). You will need to charge a membership fee, but that won't cover all your costs if you're going to do it properly. Appoint a treasurer to take care of the finance side, and a president for the rest.

Our school has had one for a couple of years now. it's great. here's what we do
-meetings mostly student run
-we had a bake sale yesterday
-we get a bus up to the local mountain every wednesday
-we had a rail jam and then hosted meathead films at our school
-we had a trip to okemo last april and got to miss a day of school

good luck with yours. its a great thing to do

and to add to this
-we are planning on taking more trips this year
-we all chipping in and got some FD hoodies/tees with the club name silk screened on the arm
-Most importantly we meet weekly to discuss our plans and funds both student and school raised

My school has had one that is like full course but it is a trade off to go to our local mountain and work as a digger, patroller and instructor. You work about half the day and then ski the rest. During the odd year we also have a trip ip to whistler to celebrate fulfilling our hours. Only problem for it is you need district funding but you are paid on those half days for your work, not to mention you also get to miss lots of school. This year we are also planning with a local shop to have a rail jam too, hope that give you some idea on how my school runs theres

That's a good idea. I just made an equestrian team for my school, maybe I will do this as well. There aren't many people at my school who freeski, let alone know what it is so maybe this could get people interested! Hope all goes well for you.

I'd say make it not only freestyle, so that kids would be more likely to join, but once they join, push them to freeski.

I made one 2 years ago, it was a pain in the ass but i got it.

-Make sure you tell him that skiing is an extremely physical sport that is great for the body.

-You will probably have to take a short 30 min lesson (It's worth it for a day of skiing) just to say that you are learning while on the trip.

-You better start booking passes and bussing to the hill's, the sooner = Cheaper/Your choice of hill you would be suprised how fast they sell out of group lessons.

-Type up a rough copy of the form to show him, Include stuff like must where helmet.

If he approves then:

-Get awareness, my first year all i did was put up some poster's around school and nobody really knew about skiing/snowboarding in my area.

-Keep everything to the bare essentials, no point organizing a rail jam/ trampoline stuff as not that many people are into it as you are. And sorry, most people coming to your club will be gapers.

-Night trips are often better as it won't affect any curricular involvement.

-Plan a end trip. This year my club is going to TREMBLANT for a 2 day stay. Everyone from the school wants to go but I made it so you have to go to 4 of the 8 trips in order to go. The more people you get the less the bus cost's remember.



Make a video for next year. It is really good for showing your school how much fun skiing can be (stay away from dub-step for this video)

I was about to post the same thing. Opening the club to a broader number of people will greatly increase your chances of getting it going. The ski club at my school fills up 2 charter buses every Wednesday night to go to the hill.
