Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Help

I need your help newschoolers with buying a dog.  We have finally decided upon the ACD and i've found a reliable breeder.  Issue is, he lives in Missouri and i live in CT.  He can sell me an 8 week old puppy for $950 and hes double masked.  Now what i need to know is, is that a lot for this dog and its age? It comes microchipped, vaccinated, life-time support from the breeder, akc registered, all of its puppy toys etc.  He also is $300 to ship here which is a ton.   This includes a cage you get to keep and his dog food and all.  I will try to haggle with this breeder and get the price of him lowered.  Is this reasonable or too much?

I should be getting more pics of him tomorrow and ill post them when i do.

I'm severely allergic to most animals, but every year since I can remember I'd wish for a dog for my birthday. after seeing upwards of 10 breeders with dozens of dogs, we found a dog I wasn't allergic to. we bought my dog for $800.

this was in 1993. he's downstairs right now still hanging out, sleeping on the kitchen floor. I don't like putting a price on a "family member", but $1250 is nothing in my opinion.

those are sick dogs... not really sure about the price, but just a warning these dogs are insanely hyper and basically need to be active almost 100% of the time. I spent my whole summer treeplanting in the middle of fucking nowhere and this chick had one and it literally sprinted around for 10 hrs a day and still seemed to need more activity.

yes im aware but blue heelers are one of the smartest dogs in the world and when it comes to the U.S, they are very uncommon on the east coast.  I've searched for tons of breeders out here and there arent many at all. 95% of them are sold and the rest are too old for what we are looking for.

this is my only advice too, sorry i don't know much about dealing with breeders

I have a border collie, best thing i ever bought, it was 250 for the dog, purebread off of a farm and he is super smart, super obedient, needs lots of attention and activity, but its so worth it getting a dog that is active all the time, gets you off the couch, he will get on your nerves sometimes but man i is worth it, 800 is quite a bit of money but if your willing to pay it go for it, i would look for a non-breeder, they are just as legit i bought mine off a girl who needed money for college so she bread her working dogs, best dog i have ever met, everyone loves him, plus he shreds on a skateboard and loves the pow pow

Get a mutt, for free. You won't regret it. The price of "pure bred" registered dogs is jacked up unbelievably high compared to the price of breeding them. Unless you are one of those pretentious people who likes to tell people their dog's background and fool yourself into thinking they care or are impressed. lul

its also an issue with my parents . they want a pure bred dog and want a puppy, so our cat can get used to the dog. a year old dog would be too big for our cat to adjust to

i know you might really want to get a purebred dog, but before you spend that kind of money check out your local animal shelter and see what they have. You won't regret it.

I'm not sure about CT but they give away border collies here in Eastern Oregon. if you can find a farming area nearby you can often find free work dogs. they'll have puppies too

$300 shipping isn't a lot for "shipping" a live, breathing animal. Haha! Not like they can just duct tape him in a bag. And for his age? He's 8 weeks old... that's as young as they get. So if you're super set on this dog, yeah, I'd say that's a reasonable price. Especially if he has all his shots and you're getting food/toys/cage etc. None of that stuff is cheap...

IMO, I would go to the local pound and get a kick ass dog that needs a new lease on life... both my dogs are rescued and there the best things to ever happen to me.

ive been to CT shelters, MA and my cousins were in Ny ones. nothing that suits our family . ive tried a ton to get a shelter dog . trust .

Hello,

We have a Heeler that we got from the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association (ACDRA.org) based out of NY state, he was approx 2 years old when we got him. The association had quite a interview process for placing their dogs but if you are good person you'll have no problem.

The Heeler or (ACD) is an amazing canine! Absolutely Amazing! So smart, too smart, he runs our family. Plus the athleticism is mind blowing, my cattle dog is a little guy only 40lbs and he can easily jump over me while still catching the frisbee, he does really well BC skiing, and in general is an amazing animal. He is a little mouthy though. He likes to make sure that people understand he is second in charge after me. Heelers are very loyal, and exceptionally obdient to there owners, but are not scared to boss other dogs, people, animals around. My cattle dog will take as much or as little excercise as I give him. Sometimes he's happy laying on the couch as much as he is climbing a mountain.

He has been very supportive of me while I am recovering from a torn ACL.

I'm looking at around $1500 for the one I want.

For all you saying a mutt... Those are great for families with out kids or other pets or for individuals. But when you have another pet you are concerned about, it's best to have a puppy and know the traits of the breed. Sometimes you can get a mutt as a pup, but they are harder to come by and if they have been recently abused or anything of the sort, you can end up with a slue of problems.

dude just go to the pound and rescue one.....saves a life, saves you money, and you feel better because like someone else said, you didnt "pay for a family member"
