Mogul Skiers?

Whats your guys opinion on mogul skiiers? I know some from like killington and lake placid and they ski park pretty well. Ive noticed a lot more in edits and i dont know whether they should put that on NS. whats your opinion?

moguls are fun i have never really seen a freestyle mogul skier in person or tried it so i cant really form an opinion but it looks fun

when i do moguls i progressivly get faster until i either lose controll and fall, or manage to turn sideways for a bit, then i do it again

I got realy good at bumps last year skiing at Mary Jane a lot last year. Late season I hurt my back and then no more. If you can really get good at them they're fun as shit.

moguls are fun, i feel like lots of people grew up skiing moguls as kids but then migrated to slope style and pipe comps

I used to ski lots of moguls back home in Minnesota, but never competitively. And I don't go out of my way to ski them anymore...damn knees.

i grew up skiing moguls and i have even won some comps at MRG

mogul skiers definitely have a place here because it is a huge part of our sport and much of freestyle has roots from mogul events, like Jonny Moseley and the dinner roll

moguls are sooooo much fun. hitting a really well made course can be the funnest thing. i used to compete on a freestyle team but i kind of sucked at hitting the jumps. since leaving the team ive only gotten to ski moguls in the summer when i hit the mhssc line. i definitely miss it

I used to compete in bumps back in the day..fun shit!! I dunno if anyone else was in that East Coast FIS thinger...like A's and AA's. I never made it to A's but I had a grand ol time in the AA's bustin 3's and twister spreads. But I still love bumps...soo fun, especially in the spring. Somedays, you just gotta get out of the park and feel that burnn.

If you can ski bumps, you can ski anything. Look at Mike Henitiuk and Matt Margetts. And creators of the sport like JF. They all skied bumps.

Pep competed for years before he blew up freeskiing. Same for Candide. If you talk shit about moguls it reflects more on your knowledge of our sport more than bump skiing. HOT DOG SKIING FOREVER!!!

Moguls are one of the best ways to get good at the sport.  Most of the great skiers out there have a background in either moguls or racing, sometimes both.

JF Cusson is probably NOT the one I would mention.  He was a great park skier, but I never saw him push it into the big mountain arena.  JP Auclair is a different story, he can still really ski.

Jonny Moseley would be a great example of a mogul skier who could do everything.  He was arguably the best skier in the world around 2000, someone who dominated an Olympic discipline AND killed big mountains.  Watch the TGR flick The Realm, and see him kill it.

Most great mogul skiers have the skills to take it to the big mountain, although they still have to learn.  They don't just step out of a heli and kill it, it takes work.  Moseley was well known around Squaw for his big mountain prowess, he did not just spend all day in the bumps.  He was a better all-around skier than most of the mogul guys, or most of the racers for that matter.

If you can ski moguls you will have a background that will allow you to progress in other areas, if you work at it.  You can't just take an east coast mogul kid, and put him in a line like the Fingers at Squaw, and expect him to kill it.  It takes time and work.  However, the solid fundamentals he will have developed in the bumps will mean he has the potential to develop into a big mountain skier.

I am far more impressed with mogul skiers than rail sliders.  A great mogul skier has solid skiing fundamentals.  They know how to turn, handle speed, and stay solid on their feet.  Their experience with dicy runouts will help them in big mountain conditions.  I don't know how sliding a rail translates into making a turn on a 50 degree face, or stomping a big cliff with a tough landing.

Moguls don't get enough attention.  It's too bad, because the stuff guys are doing in the Olympics is insane.  Someone who can rip a zipper line, do an off-axis 7 off a jump, and land it 4-point and keep going with no bobble is a GREAT skier.  In my mind those competitions are more impressive than any downhill race or any x-games(or any other park for that matter) competition.  The only competition that stands above Olympic mogul skiing is the Verbier Extreme, on the Bec De Ross, and maybe the Red Bull Cold Rush.

Being a ski instructor myself, I'll say that mogul skiing incorporates every skill set necessary for skiing. If you can slay the bumps, you can slay anything.

I kinda disagree, I now a lot of people who are efficient in moguls and can't ski pow for shit. They are two completely different mediums of snow. What I think it is, if u have enough on snow time to get really good at moguls, ur probably good at everything else also. And I do agree, it does take a certain degree of technical efficiency to ski moguls well

Bump skiing is awesome, especially if they're in a decent line with some rhythm. Where I ski they refuse to leave a designated bump run, so shit usually gets beat. Everyone goes there and skis steeps when they definitely don't have the skill to be there, so any sort of good bump run gets destroyed.

On nice and soft springs days I'm about 50/50 between park and bumps.

Moguls force you to learn to use the 3 main ways to move your ski better than almost any other form of skiing. It forces you to utilize the flexing, tilting, and rotating of the ski, and often all at the same time. You can't teach somebody to use all three of those mechanisms in the powder now can you? Not many skiers can properly utilize all three at once anyways.

Moguls are the best way to improve your skiing. They tell you if you're doing something wrong, fast. I see lots of awesome park skiers who can't ski bumps to save themselves, but rarely see it the other way round.

McConkey skied the Pro Mogul Tour after racing in college, i don't think Schimdt skied moguls competively, and Tanner never made the US team. Tanner competed in USSA Am. mogul events in Montana region. I'm not sure if he ever made Nationals. but he was really young when he quit. I'm sure if he would have kept competing he would have killed it on the W.C.

I seem to remember tanner on a segment in a warren miller movie, where johnny mosley introduced him as a member of the freestyle mogul jr. national team, could be wrong tho. And ueah I blanked, kent kreitler was shane's roommate and they skied the bud pro mogul tour together, I have no idea why I said scot schmidt
