I just got my house re-carpeted, and I have a ton of left overs, I was wondering if anyone ever tried it before. Its wound real tight, so I'm hoping it'll work. I'm going to put construction fencing over it as well.

I haven't but if you put construction fence over it, it will keep the fence wet and fast.

You should try throwing your ski on it while wet and soapy and having the brakes disengaged

I hate carpet; any carpet for a ski surface. You have to use a ton of soap and water to get it to slide. This kills any grass or other plants near your drop in. Your parents will shoot you in the head when they get the water bill. The water bill and the dead flora is the gift that keeps on giving whenever you want to hit up your set up.
My advice is to explain that to your parents and get them to help you finance some Msnow. Too cheap? Buy plastic lattice fencing from home depot. Neither the lattice of the Msnow need to be wet down. Also, my experience with using soap and water is that the soap gets on your rail and makes it too slick; especially PVC.

Well its real tightly wound so its pretty smooth. I have the construction fencing which I will put on top. So I don't it will be terribly different from turf :/

Where did you get the construction fence? Do you have someone steal it?

Drive around any construction place with a box cutter there are always rolls that are left around and if they are connected just cut and through it in your car. OR check a dumpster at almost finished construction spots.
