i got invited to go with a group of surgeons down to Haiti in November to help poor families in Haiti. im really torn on going. i have heard the poverty is so bad down there and i dont know if i would be able to handle it, has anyone done any missionary work, peace corps type stuff? i really want to do this, because i just want to give back to world, because ive been given so much, these children in haiti are so poor that they eat once a week at the most.

I feel impressed.I can't give you any tips, but i can give you props.
Poverty is a main problem in Haiti, but also the recent uprising and exiliation of Andrade will make it maybe a dangerous experience.(OI hope i didn't get confused,it was Haiti right?)
Good Luck.

wow, that would really be an amazing experience. It sounds like you really want to go, and I think after something like that you'd have such a better understading of the world, and you'd be able to get so much out of helping all those people. I say go for it, and it's really great that you're doing this.

do it if it is somethin u really beleive in and feel it would be worth making the sacrafices, but if you dont feel to strongly about doing it then going would probably be rough, i personally couldnt do that but i have the upmost respect for those who are that selfless

Your questione was in realtion to if you think you could handle it? Believe me, anyone can handle anything given enough time. As far as being exposed to extreme poverty I had the chance to be involved with rebuilding activities in the Phillipines earlier this year, I don't think they're as bad off as Haiti, but it's very easy to get yourself into trouble when your an American in those kind of conditions. Althoug I'd recommend it, I'd say Haiti is not a good place to go your first time, if Marines were sent in there with guns in order to stabilize the situation which is still being felt there, well that's enough said.
