getting a mac

not because i actaully want one but my mom doesn't know the difference from a computer to a toaster so I thought we would get her a computer that is a little more like a toaster!

(in all truth I recognise that macs are powerfull machines but I like windows much better, I feel confined when useing a mac)

anyhow, she doesn;t want to spend alot so I was lookin at the 15 inch Imac. I was also lookin at the Emac and the cheapest G4 Tower. my mom is willing to spend $1300 (the price of the Imac and the G4 Tower) but which is better????

The main delema is betwene the Emac and the G4 tower. this is because the Emac is only $800 but it is the same fucking processor speed as the G4 tower! The Emac has a ATI radion 9200 with 32 mb and the G4 tower has a Radion 9000 but with 64 mb and it is a pro. I am prutty sure that the g4's vid card is better becuase ti has dubble the memore and it si a pro but I ahve to say that bot the vid cards SUCK. I am very suprised, I thought macs main focus was graphics! looks liek I was wrong! will my friend says that when it comes to macs 2 computers with the same processor speed will still proform vastly different (because of how many floting point operations and the mobo) is this true? will the G4 Tower be faster then the Emac even though they both have a G4 prosessor clocked at 1.25 ghz and they both have the same ram? if not, why the fuck is the Emac so much fucking cheaper??? It is looking like the Imac is out of the question becuase it has less mhz than both the Emac and the G4 tower (1.0 ghz) and it has a worse video card. it is looking like the G4 Tower is what my mom and I want. it has both os x and os 9 on it so she could use the simpler, easyer to use os 9 and I could use os x (when i am not useing the pc).

it is the part where is says Level 3 cache. that is what makes the G4 tower better. but what the fuck is that? I know about computers but not so much about the technical shit abotu the hardware. can someone please explain to me how a processor works LOL

i dont know shit about computers other than i have a mac G5 and it is the shit! so fast and has never crashed or not worked for anything once

ive got an old imac, and old ibook and a new emac. die hard fan. i love the new emac. windows has nothin on OS X Panther. nothing at all.

no, i serously find it harder to get things done. and you can't change anything, everything is just set and you can;t modify the os/whatever else. it tells u, not asks u. (not that windows asks u but there is aloways a war around things in windows, not so in mac os)

computers are not supposed to be 'fun'! they are supposed to work and that is it! Apple is WAY, WAY to focused on design to actually do anything usefull. Don;t get me wrong I have a great looking pc, but I bought the case froma campany that all they do is make cases, and I bought the processor from a company that all they do (just about) is make processors and I got the os from a company that roughly just maks OSes. that is whe way it should be!

I had a G3 Ibook, and I TRIED very hard -to get it to run virtual pc that is... but the damn thing was too slow so i sold it and got a pc notebook and too this day it has never truely let me down.

Emac's are nice, but they are mainly for education purposes, which sounds like what you and your mom both need because you have no clue about how Mac's run. The G4 Tower is going to cost you more because you will have to buy a display, unless you already have one (you did not specify in any of your 10 posts). The G4 Tower will rip by the eMac, even though they have the same clock speed. And when people tell you that Mac's are for graphics, they are completely right in the sense that Apple machines are the best bet for anything involving 'graphic design'. This does not require an amazing video card, which from the way you are talking, you have and love to boast about. Either way, Apples are your best bet for anything Adobe...Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign...or Macromedia...Freehand, Studio MX...and the such. Why would it make sense to build top of the line graphics cards in every machine like say, Alienware does, when Apple does not have widespread support for gaming? That is what people mean when they say Apple's are for graphics, and now they are stepping up to the Music Industry as well, and they completely own Handheld music. Anyways, good luck with finding a new computer. (Always sweet when your signature quotes yourself too!)

lol, ya isn;t it fun.

anyway:
I have a greater understanding of things than u think. I thought macs were good for 3d programs such as Lightwave and Maya. If i'm not mistaken, those do take advantage of a good video card. anyway I have come to the fact that while I may not like the os (or the fact that they are redicously overpriced) that Apples are good machines however I still have much fun bashing on them.

I was thinking about that but we really don;t have a need top burn dvds (I might later but I would use a pc anyway) I think it would be better to get the G4 Tower, it would be faster

i have the emac super drive, u should def. get the emac superdrive
cuz now its up to 1.25 ghz and cheaper than mine when it was only at 1 ghz. so the price for that emac is craaazy. one drive has a cd player, cd burner, dvd player, dvd burner. the nice speakers, and comes all in one unit with a 17in. flat monitor thats suuper nice. u gotta get the emac super drive. best deal out there.

I already have a custom PC (configured a barebone from cyberpower and then added some of my own shit)

I am getting a mac because it will be better for my mom to use and also beucase although I hate them I want to get into digital video/graphic design and alot of ferms unfortunatly still use them.
