My friend had these gloves that had wrist guards in them, I thought that was pretty cool. I am in the market for gloves currently for when I ski, I think gloves are the way to go, right?

Depends on what you want/like. First of it's personal preference. Some people like mitts more than gloves, others don't.
It also depends on where/when you're skiing. If it's freezing cold, you probably want mitts, whilst if it's a hot spring day you want like a thin park glove...If you only ski park you want thinner gloves for easy grabs and if you're skiing pow you probably want mitts.

I have smith gloves and they work great. I also have Outdoor Research gloves for spring days, and I have never run into problems with water unless it was

+1 here.

I run the Dakine Cobra glove. Super comfy and warm. Which is surprising for how low-pro it is.

If the glove is anything like the mitt, the mitt will keep you much warmer on cold days! I just prefer the dexterity of gloves.

i don't really like dakine gloves maybs it's because i buy the really cheap ones? ive had a pair for drop gloves for 2 seasons and still going strong for a 3rd.
