Girls need skis tooo....

Hey i've been asking around and could use a tid bit of advice on what kinda skis to get..

I am a girl.. (obviously...) 21yrs old, 5'5 tall 126 lbs.. i only started skiing last year (snowboarding just didn't cut it anymore i guess) but I progressed fairly quickly.. I started out with a set of volkl pearls and now i am looking for something more. I like to ski park, pipe, on and off piste and would like to get more into powder (my skis were too small last year so on a pow day I would just stick on the board..)

I need a softer ski, something that I can play around with but won't hold me back either i guess.. I'm not overly concerned about price so long as its not retardedly expensive... oh and I ski on the North shore but am moving to whistler this season..

At the moment I'm torn between the Volkl Kenja's and the Moment Sierra's but i also don't really know what else is out there that I should be looking at..

I'm in the same boat you are, 9 years snowboarding and I said f this I'm teaching myself how to ski and now I'm in love. I'm thinking about getting a pair of Lines this season. I dunno they ride pretty nice, K2's are pretty sweet too..I'm more of a park person so I use twin tips. Dunno what you're up to on the mtn... but I've never tried a pair of Volkis, either. Just depends on what you're planning on doing.

oh twin tips fo sho lol.. i was lookin at some line skis..wasn't really a fan of the graphics.. i have no idea how they ride but why is it that boys skis and boys stuff in general is always wayyyy nicer than girls?? they get sick graphics and we get stupid flowers ..

Those are K2s, I've rode em and they are pretty sick. The graphics are sick, too.


Not attractive but super sick skis. Like, godly.

I hate that how we get butterflies and horses and shiii, graphics for girls are lame both in the skiing and snowboard world. I've honestly never rode a girls boot/binding/board/clothing before although I do have some lame roxy skis that have a sick paisley graphic on them. haha.

I dunno why those links didn't work. If you really wanted to check em out you can always copy and paste. I got them off the Evo shop here in Washington's website in the "outlet" section..thats a good place to compare and contrast, too. Just because the user reviews are pretty honest

hmm i think there was one to many http thingys.. i like the graphics on the shadows actually.. just wish i could try em all out i suppose.. i'm even considering just getting a new pair of the pearls but who knows..

If the topsheets are ugly, then sticker or sharpie over them like everyone else who loves the ski, hates the graphic (or is just artsy).

As far as skis, reviews on Evo and whatevers out there on TGR should help a little, but its a small market with limited resources for good reviews... Dont feel like you have to go with girls skis either, there are some guys skis that could work for you if the dimensions and flex pattern are sorta around what you ideally want.

If u want a ski that can ski a little park, but kills it everywhere on the mtn, check out the line celebrity 90 or the salomon geisha. The geisha has some early rise in the tip so pow won't kill u and is wide enough to float. If u want a pow ski that can shred anywhere look at the line pandora, amazing ski, or the k2 missbehaved, a girl that works at my shop skied some at a demo when she went home to new zeland a couple of weeks ago, and won't stop talking about them. I'm pretty sure shes in love

Then get guys skis. Only difference is generally graphic and a softer flex.

I'll tell you what I look for when I buy skis for my wife.  What I look for in a ski for her sounds like a good fit for what you may be looking for.  I would look for a ski that is 90-100 mm in the waist - that will enable you to hit the park on regular days and still float a bit on powder days.  Definitely grab something with a fairly soft flex like you said.  Lastly, make sure you get something with a decent sidecut.  Most lady's skis that are park oriented, like the Pearl, have very little sidecut compared to an all-mountain ski.  Some skis that come to mind that would probably be a good fit are a) ARVs in the last two or three seasons b) Older Seths, like two years ago and older. c) Line blends.  If you are wanting to stick more towards womens skis a) Salomon Lady (female version of the Lord) b) Line Celebrity 90   C)  Rossi S 90 W Freeski

well if there's no beer then i guess white.. ? haha iduno i've been having no luck in the women's skis department.. other than the moment stiletto's nothing seems to be what I want or need.. im just not a huge K2 fan even though the misdemenour describes what i'm looking for in a ski.. - Something 85-90 underfoot.. about 160 in length?

any suggestions if i'm searching for a guys ski that sorta fits the same description but isnt too stiff?

As it's been said, you definitely don't need to restrict yourself to a girl's ski. However, the armada ARVw might be just what you are looking for.. Also the line blends are softer this year and have some early rise (which is awesome in my opinion) so you may want to consider those as well..

So I'm gonna say armada arvw. 89mm underfoot, softer tip and tail, a little beefed up underfoot, but stupid playful. it'll be killer in the park, but with a little more girth on deeper days.

The unfortunate reality is that, in Whistler, you'd really need two skis. One park/all mountain, one powder ski. My girlfriend rides 161 anthems as her normal ski, and when we head (and soon move) out west, she brings along 162 pandoras.

A ski is a ski, it doesn't matter if its a boys or girls ski, just get what is right for you, same goes with manufactures just buy what will suit you best, better still try them out.  My girlfriend actually has stiffer skis than me, she just likes how they ride and it suits her style more.

If your gonna get two pairs and you dont wanna break the bank I suggest picking up some of the Line shadows or something for park all mountain, the older pairs are also insanely cheap, my gf got hers for about $75 brand new, and then that will leave you more money for a fatter pow ski.

My wife rocks surface next lifes in 160cm. She is 5'6" 125lbs. The next lifes havea 100mm waist with rocker. She has an extra pair for sale for $250 that are brand new. She loves them for powder and all mountain.

i just got the new 2011 line shadows and i love them because they are light weight and the flex is pretty good, the graphics are okay and i really like the bottom of the skis cause they're so bright but don't get skis because of the graphics

i'm like in the same size! id been a snowboarder since i was 5, and this year i started skiing because i broke my ankle, and i picked it up fast. i have armada arws that slay! their super light and pretty soft, their more of a park ski, but they can handle a lil bit of pow. and im stoked to try out the moment regans, although their huge,, they look dope too.

I would highly recoment the missdemeanors for you. K2 has been making solid girls skis for years and many of the girls i ride with/know either go with those or the line celebrities

k2 and volkl are known for a good solid line up of womens skis.

As far as "women specific" skis, there's not much different other then a lower flex range in the models and graphics (as mentioned above).

I would strongly recommend demoing a few pairs before you pick anything. Especially as someone new to the sport, you need to find something you're comfortable on and tailors to the type of skiing you do. Most ski shops will demo skis for a day or two, and it's not terribly expensive.

The Kenja's aren't a twin & have a complete metal top sheet making them a little stiffer and more rigid. They are new this year?? If they are anything like the aura, you aren't going to want them in the park or the powder. The k2 missbehaved look amazing this season. Not too girly graphic, wider under foot & a twin. I personally have the elan Deeps, medium flex, 105 under foot and twin for big mtn/trees etc. But they're too big for me in the park.

If your going to be at whistler then definitely go with the Line Pandora, way more snow than the north shore so your park time is most likely going to be reduced. Theres not really one ski thats going to ski both off-piste and park really well. 2 Ski quiver ftw.
