Hard Choice

So pretty much my Dad is the biggest badass/boss on the planet and has planned out two choices for me to do for my spring break. I have no idea what I should do and no better place than NS for the answer and guidance (slight sarcasm).

March 19th would be the day of my departure.

Option 1: 4 days skiing at Saltwater plus Red Mtn and White Mtn. A day at both for a total of six epically awesome days.

Option 2: 4 Days of heli skiing at Haines Alaska (Yes, I know "OMG Haines," but read on before you post)

-Option 1 would be good because I'm are not so weather dependent as with Option 2 my dad and I could spend $10k to sit in a lodge at Alaska wishing the sun would shine.

-Option 2 would be good because with weather, good snow conditions permitting, and the combination of the terrain Alaska has to offer the trip would be as equally awesome as option #1.

So NS, what do you think?

Oh... and... I'm sure someone is going to say something along the lines of "you're a spoiled bitch," but I don't care I'm humble for the opportunities given to me and if you don't think so thanks for the free bump :)

I would go with the heli skiing just because of the potential. Thats sick that your getting that opportunity! have fun either way!

I'd definately go with the heliskiing, thats like once in a lifetime opportunity and even if the weather doesnt match, they propably can still hook u up with some treeskiing

Does anyone have any experience with Salt Water?

Heli skiing does sound fun but if Salt Water has exceptional terrain you can get more runs in a day using the lift.

I'm not sure how that translates into vertical feet skied (Never been heli skiing), but I'm going to guess you might get more with the lifts.

On the contrary I'm struggling to think of an easier choice than the one you have: just go to Haines.

Heli-skiing in Alaska is a once in a lifetime opportunity that a tiny proportion of skiers are lucky enough to experience whereas you will most likely partake in resort skiing all your life.

As for the risk with Alaska - skiing is always dependent on conditions to some extent. In your worst/best case scenarios think about which you would regret more: getting limited skiing in Alaska whilst missing out on a foot of fresh that's quickly devoured by the resort hounds or making do with sketchy resort conditions whilst others are getting blue bird faceshots with every turn on an Alaskan spine?

call up the heliskiing and ask what their bad weather policy is. alot of the operations also have catskiin, or they will fly to lower elevation sub alpine stuff. Seriously discuss your options with the heli op your thinking of using

Ok I guess I forgot to add the only alternative activity at AK.... supposibly, is things like volley ball but nothing ski related. Kinda is hard for me to believe since I'll be in the mountains but that's what I've been told.

And there is a cost to me, it may not be money but I'll be wasting my time. Especially since its over my spring break.

heli man i went cat skiing and the thing wasnt running for ll days so i had ll days of fresh pow with blue bird skies so there is a chance u will get an awsome time

Yeah, Option #1 the last two days are cat skiing, but now I think it's apparent that I should be shredding some spines in AK.

There is a general rule for heliskiing that you should never go to Alaska for less than two weeks (at the very least 1) because of weather problems. It would be a pretty big bummer if you didn't ski at all.

Maybe go somewhere that they can take you on a cat on windy/cloudy days. Otherwise, option 1.
