America is an awesome place to be. IMO after traveling a shit ton ive been to some pretty cool places, but i still cant think of one place id rather be than here.
the problem is just what the other guy said. Americans are giving up. we expect the government to wipe our ass constantly and are not willing to risk anything to gain success. not to be a dick, but Ameica is becoming like the rest of the world in that way. what used to set us apart was that we were a nation of people that worked their ass off to get what they want, any risks associated with almost complete freedom were completely worth it. people were willing to risk their lives to have freedom, now people risk freedom for anything that makes living easier. The whole idea of America was to have the smallest government possible and be run by the people.
government should almost be the enemy, and fear the people, and it used to be that way somewhat, but it has made a complete 180 now.
id say America really started to loose it around the 50's. and it really started becoming apparent in the 90's.
people want to be told what to do, how to live, and be given money and oppertunities rather than working for it themselves.
here's a sad story, in my debate class a couple weeks ago, we had a discussion on freedom of speech. it was related to the westboro baptist church protests. the professor had us raise our hands to see who believed they should be able to say what they want, when they want and where they want and have no restrictions, and it was me and 2 other people who raised their hands. then 7-10 people raised their hands saying they shouldn't be able to do it at funeral's. and about 15-18 people raised their hands saying they shouldnt be able to say anything at all if its that offensive.
thats how fucked we have become. maybe its just this generation, but the fact that the majority of the class was willing to give up freedom of speech, our first amendment to not get their feelings hurt is completely pathetic. one girl even made the comment that the 1st amendment was "stupid" luckily an ex marine in my class (one of the 2 others to raise their hands with me) basically murdered her with words, even called her a bitch. our teacher was smirking the whole time, it was awesome.
that being said. there are still awesome places in the US. you just never hear about them, obviously all the major cities suck ass, and everything you hear on the news is bad news because thats whats interesting. but if you really think America is a terrible place, i suggest you go to places like nebraska, middle of nowhere texas, colorado, utah, wyoming, montana, etc... even some better areas of the south. and you will meet some of the most interesting intelligent people ever. people who are basically living in the 50's still. where modern government and law's just dont apply to them. out of all the places ive visited across the world, the most interesting people ive met were in these happy little towns in America.
so yeah, America is still awesome, just dont expect to go to some shit pile part of LA and expect to see what America is all about.
