To be honest I see America as a pretty shitty place but that is mainly due to Canadian media.

I see poverty in the south, ghettos all over the place, a massive obeisety problem, an illegal immigrant problem and you guys almost single handedly destroying the worlds economy.

I obvioulsy know that this is not all true but I feel like that is what a lot of the world may see you as.

after spending a year abroad in germany and having a german mother myself I completly see were you are coming from, and met alot of people who had these same ideas. I just think its interesting to know what americans think of themselves

the US seems to be the place to go if you want to prosper. if you're rich, have a private health plan, live in a good neighborhood, you're going to be very well off and probably very happy. on the flip-side of that, if you're poor, you're completely boned, as you'll have no health care, live in a crime-ridden zone, and are going to have a tough time clawing your way out. the mean is the same as it is anywhere else (small family, nice, cozy little home, 60k salary living in the burbs), but the extremes (rich vs poor) are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum, whereas most other places, if you're rich you're drowning in tax to help support the less fortunate, and if you're poor you really aren't in all that deep since you still have access to the same shit as anybody else.

Americans have given up. This generation just doesn't want to be involved and they want the government to do everything for them. However, the US is one of the few countries actually contributing to the UN, even if it doesn't benefit us. We don't have much money, we seem to have no spending limit and the population seems to think cars make great status symbols, even if they can't afford the damn thing. America needs to wake up and start working again. Where did the pride go? The war starts and six years later everyone starts to think America sucks, they can't find a job, but they aren't willing to work certain jobs, so illegals end up taking their place. It's a sad world. If people began believing in America again, maybe we would be better. Bitching about who WE elected does us no good.

I think it's funny how Canada media covers what goes on in America because they don't have enough going on. When's the last time we saw something on the news about something occurring in Canada? Never. I think it's funny you have to rely on putting down other countries to make yours feel better about itself. I know America does it with many middle eastern countries, but to chose Americans news to put on television and in the papers, I honestly think that's a joke. Everyone hates on America all they want, but in the large scheme of things America is such a great place to live and anyone blind enough not to see that is undeserving of living in the country. We don't realize how great we have it.

Well I'm dual Citizen, (AMERICAN-CANADIAN) so i can represent the american side right now. 5 days studying and doing labs and the other 2 i'm studying AND working catoring and for a pharmacy. I am also sitting in on a genetic engineering lab 3 days a week that's working on altering bacteria to make them produce things that help humanity.

America is an awesome place to be. IMO after traveling a shit ton ive been to some pretty cool places, but i still cant think of one place id rather be than here.

While I live in the nice part of town and go to the nice school, it doesn't mean that I don't see the poverty south of me or not-so-good stats for my city. We have a high unemployment rate here in Fresno. Quick background info- Fresno is the world's breadbasket. We have tons of field jobs worked by illegal immigrants (guess what, they're real! They're not just a conspiracy created by the Southwest to gain federal money to "secure" our borders). Many of these impoverished, legal citizens, who are living off of welfare could easily be out picking fruit for minimum wage, but the labor is just too hard for them, so they just continue to live off of the people who do work hard in this country. To make matters worse, these illegals aren't even spending most of their money here, it's being sent back to Mexico to help their family. That is what I was getting at, am I enough of a dumbass to think everyone is lazy? No and I never said everyone was lazy.
