i looked at U of MD and there isnt really any skiing all that close. i ended up at LaSalle, pretty much up the street from temple. bear creek, blue mountain, and big boulder/jack frost are all easy day trips. quickest way out of the city is broad st. north to 1 south, 76 west to 476 north. depending on traffic, that could take 15 minutes, or an hour if you time it wrong. from there, bear is a little less than an hour, blue about an hour and 15, and boulder about an hour and a half. philly's got lots of handrails too, but it seemed everyone was travelling or hurt whenever it snowed last year.
Near UMD is Roundtop, Liberty and Whitetail. Not sure about the times for any of them, but I'm guessing somewhere around an hour or so away is Libety and Whitetail. Not sure about Roundtop.
used to be at lasalle, i graduated in 07 and live in rox now. the pretzel rail in manayunk needs to get slayed, and there's a really good one at an office building on chemical rd in plymouth meeting with a perfect inrun.
From UMD, you have Ski Liberty and Ski Whitetail an hour away with maybe some change. Roundtop will be about 1 hour 45 minutes. Wisp will be about 2 and a half hours; Seven Springs is maybe an hour more. If it matters, Liberty Snowflex in VA is about 4 hours away
