If theres alot of good people at your hill with shitty gear, you'll look like a poser, if its like my hill where your considered amazing if you can do a 7, you can wear whatever the fuck you want and they'll still think your cool.

here is gator's formula for determining skiing ability

let's say you start with a scale, 0 being you suck at skiing (gaper) and 7 being you are super pro

for every one of these factors, you give yourself a point. if you do not apply to any, you get a negative point everyone starts at 2 and it is very possible to go into the negatives

+1 if you spend more than 75% of days in the park
+1 if your outerwear is more than 2 sizes bigger than what your grandma would buy for you
+1 if you wear your goggle strap under your helmet
+1 if your poles are shorter than 20"
+1 if you do not use poles
+1 if you ride the current year's park skis that you bought new from a local shop
+1 if you ride 12 din bindings or lower
+1 if you do badly in school because you don't give a fuck
+1 if you live in the midwest
+1 if you wear a hoodie regardless of weather conditions
+1 if you listen to wu tang
+1 if you spend most of your time standing around next to jumps
+7 if you spend your time filming because you're never pressured into hitting anything (do not subtract points if this does not apply to you)
-199 if you are from kenya

total your points and divide by 2. take your raw score and see where you stand on the scale

for reference, kangbang scores a 6.5 and ian mcintosh scores a negative 5. that is proof of this system's accuracy

Honestly fair question I guess. I say don't worry about it. Sure there's often that kid with XXL clown-colored everything, latest sickest SPKs, sticks, poles, shiny goggles, sick helmet and gloves, and steeze bandana who waits at the top of the park forever only to hit the M kicker and flail like fuckin hell then bail. But, since seeing it once, I now never assume skill based on brand/product.

Don't hold yourself back from looking sharp on the hill. Just don't be "that guy" trying to get noticed solely on looks instead of tricks.
