I just want to know; who owns the content I post on NS? Has the terms of use agreement changed since I signed up?

i hope newschoolers shuts down.

Here's what I think about the movie companies getting together. Since I'd like to think the ski industry is mostly a bunch of cool people, they would put out an amazing movie regardless. What drives them may not just be competition to sell more copies, or a bit of rivalry. Who's to say they wouldn't pool their massive amount of resources together and make an awesome film? Are they driven to create the most entertaining movie possible because they enjoy making films and are passionate about what they do? Maybe, maybe not. I couldn't tell you since I'm not part of any of those companies.

In retrospect, my opinion certainly sounds like a romanticized view of business and motivation behind certain practices. I do realize that in real life this probably doesn't happen as often as the opposite does. It seems all the negative (or at lest what's considered negative by the majority) business practices make people very skeptical of anything where two large companies come together. Everybody gets all anti corporate and such when there is no evidence or grounds to go either way really.

Rogge that Step Brothers reference was SO appropriate.

Rogge your Step Brothers thing is right on. Like Doug and Rogge said earlier, this is something we see as a good thing. Its not like we are just getting bought out and being told to conform here, our resources are being pooled to give us more opportunity to become THE place for Freesking.

Everyone we've worked with has always recognized we've got this dialed and wont mess with a good thing. We have a great team in place and we'll continue to give you a kick ass Newschoolers.

I think all of those who are sceptical, not overly happy, about what happened DO believe that newschoolers will improve. Of course it will. I think one of the concerns is more of when things begin to get "synergised" to increase profit margins. It will happen. You just need to make sure they don't fuck you guys over.

Yeah you got it! NS has been owned by so-called "profit-driven large corporations" since 2007.

The magic that we have found is that we can build NS for the community, give the little guy a voice, help small companies build their reputations AND profit.

Also the idea of there being a lack of competition is totally ludicrous. I mean since when were Newschoolers and Powder competing? Newschoolers and Powder are two completely different sides of the ski world. You turn to each one respectively for separate ski media needs. So a partnership between these two makes more sense than any other partnership out there.

NS is an extremely focused and exciting community, and Powder is a super awesome and great to read magazine. We're not going to all of a sudden change what each of us has always been about because we're partners... NS is going to continue being a rad website, and Powder is going to continue being an unbelievable magazine.

To be honest, if the announcement hadn't come out you guys would never notice. Its a bit of backend corporate stuff, and more opportunity for NS to give the people a voice, and help the smaller companies grow.

I mean how many new companies have you found out about through newschoolers? Where else can someone launch a new company? If there's a new blog or new media source out there, we welcome them with open arms.

Newschoolers is, always has and always will be built and run for the community.

To whoever is saying that the large corporations are going to ruin NS...

They are the umbrella company, they give out money to companies like NS and Powder and they do their thing, as long as NS and powder return more money than they were given, then parent company is happy and will not fuck with them, especially cause powder and NS are so successful. If NS and Powder sucked monkey dick, then we would have a real issue. Giant umbrella corporation will continue to leach off NS and Powder's success and rake in the dough, all will carry on as usual. Just as if they were all employees in a company, their job is to make the boss look good, as long as they do that they will be dandy, and when the boss gets promoted then they (hopefully) get thrown a bone.
