people that say WP/MJ sucks have no clue what they're talking about. avoid wp at all costs unless all you want to do is park. find the trees at mj. hit up eagle wind if its open. vasquez is hit or miss but is awesome when its good. ask a local where to go, i'm sure they will show you the good spots.
and no, that means they were on the runs the whole time. If you know where to go you'll understand why a select crowd literally can't go away from it. (not talking about WP, only MJ)
This is a knowledgable man right here. Mary Jane is easily my favorite mountain near the 70 corrider, maybe with the exception of vail. And lots of mary jane is moguls on the runs, but the trees are so sick. topher's trees, 40 gates, the cirque, mushroom patch are all super fun spots with good cliff drops and some pillows. The park isnt as good as key or breck granted, but overall I think its much more fun.
yeah, MJ is def the place to be. eagle wind is pimp!
Trestle is a (general pain in ze ass) troughy bump-run, but about a third of the way down on the right, duck into the trees. so sick. and they hold pow too. you can ski them all the way to the cat walk....they are open enough to be fun and flowy, and there's some cool little rock drops in there too. :] have fun
jeebus just talking about this is such a tease......
After I learned the right spots, I haven't found anything like it along or north of I-70--just more fun and more snow. Mid-week in Jan and Feb, patrol only counts about half the snow that actually falls. Either that, or I know some sweet pow stashes. I've been in 6" of pow (when everyone else was reporting a flattering 5") that went above my knees.
What makes WP sick is the trees: Eagle Wind, MJ Trees, Topher's, mushroom patch, the cirque. And there are some good trees on WP side, but I'm not saying where, 'cause those are my stashes of last resort. If you're on the MJ side and you see a track into the trees, follow it and you'll be happy.
Intrawest has been bankrupt the past couple of years and has taking out on the park. Rumor has it they're going to be making up for lost time this season.
Things to definitely do whilst in WP would be to smash some bumps on the Jane side, then expolore the trees when you get some pow, enjoy the railyard if it's bluebird. Then cruise down to Coffee and tea for some apres ski beverages. When in town head to buckets for Latin night, happy hour sushi was always good too, as was the cheap margaritas and tacos at a little Mexican place that I cannot remember the name of!
