and specs...I think it will be 4K, they haven't mentioned the Epic-S in the roadmap.  I think it might be a S35 or 4/3 sensor with a fixed lens, or maybe electronic removable...  but I really would expect 4K with atleast 48 FPS to accommodate 24FPS HDRX.  Jim keeps posting about how they see 4K as the future, i have a hard time seeing them release a camera they planned 3 years ago without making it current to what they want to fit there product in.

well if they released the Scarlet fixed at 6K i'm assuming the body for the interchangeable would be less, I'd get both to have the advantages of faster primes as well.  I can carry over every component since they're modular.  Minus the lens of course.

hmm thats odd.  It would make sense being less to me unless it were packaged with a set of mini primes.  A camera with a lens is always more than a camera with a body.  The size of the Interchangeable was smaller too.  But then again the Scarlet S35- Now Epic S is mysteriously gone from the roadmap...and little mention of it.  We'll see something has changed.  I've saved up along time so I may still end up with two. 

Either way they'll be fully kitted out one or two of them.  And available for Rental in Colorado if anyone is ever swinging through and wants to shoot one :)  and when I'm not shooting them of course.

yeah, it was weird when I heard it too. But whatever, it's still an awesome camera and I'm stoked that you're getting one! post some raw files up for us to play with when you get yours

Somebody clarify for me: is there still an S35 interchangeable-lens Scarlet?

If so, I'm buying one.

we don't know yet and won't know until release day. I believe the interchangeable lens scarlet became the epic-m, but i'm not 100% sure.

No.  The Epic M was a hand machined Epic X essentially.  You could pay a premium price to buy it rather than waiting through 4 stages of the Epic X.  Which is still rolling through stage 2.  It was also released without a few settings, playback and was a semi-beta cam I guess you could call it. 

The X also has a new top part for the fan.  They're the same camera, the M is just ready now and is made in a way that it is more expensive.  The Scarlet Interchangeable was planned as a 2/3 scarlet, with MINI PL mount, for Mini Primes with the same modular system and functions as the Fixed.  The fixed was bigger in size due to the built in lens.

The Epic-S (formerly Scarlet S35) was slated for 12,000 bucks.  It was essentially a dumbed down X with limitations at 5K 4K and so on, and wasn't upgradeable but used a normal PL mount.  Everything has been quiet.

Jim hasn't mentioned the Epic S in awhile, only saying " the camera you want will come later this year" the camera that is coming later this year is the Scarlet.  They haven't mentioned more than one, or a certain number.  My guess is the Epic-S/Scarlet S35 and Fixed have all been combined into a 4K 2/3 or 4/3 camera.  Maybe even S35, although I feel that may not be the case since they put time into the MINI pl's and build of the fixed lenses.  We'll all know at 6 p.m. PST on Nov 3rd and be able to buy at 7.

November 3rd will be interesting. I have the money ready but it is too early to tell what features the camera has and does not have. I could see it being 4k, but not with the crazy frame rates, maybe up to 60fps or something... Also I don't know if HDRX will come in the scarlet, that is another question... I can see this release of thevscarlet being somewhere in the range of 10,000 to 15,000 because if you look at a camera like the Sony F3 it's in that price point. This is all just my hypothesis so this is probably 100% wrong but thought I would share.

You can afford that after the Epic M?  Wow congrats man!  Thats truley awesome.  They said earlier the price was increased by 1K to add HDRX to the Scarlet series, but that was awhile ago.  I hope the keep the 120 at 3K. 

I really think they'll keep it under 10,000 for a body.  The last speculation was around 6,000, but that was awhile ago, and then they were speculating the Body, Sidehandle and 5" touchscreen with a SSD/CF would be included.  But that was around CES/NAB etc.  I could be 100% wrong as well.

It seems to me that the camera coming out november 3rd will be a whole other beast than what people have expected the scarlet to be in the last 3 or so years. Combine that with Jim putting the announcement on the same day as Canon's 4k announcement, and it seems pretty safe to say that RED is going to come out with something impressive. As for pricing, I'm guessing that it will be more expensive than the $6,000 ready to shoot package that has been mentioned in the past, especially when you throw in the recent work the company has surely put into the package. I'd say 8-10K for the body and maybe 15k or so for a decent set up. Could be far off base though, RED is keeping things pretty mysterious at this point.

looking forward to making moves depending on what is announced on the 3rd though

Red always keeps you guessing, my best advice would get as much money ready as possible, I'm thinking 12,000 is safe but you never know!
