As a result of winning, he got to choose this week’s topic:

Decay

Something that might be considered ugly to the untrained eye can be transformed into a strangely beautiful photograph by using certain lighting and angles to bring out color, texture and character. Whether it be rotting wood, crumbling concrete structures, or a rusty abandoned bicycle, use creativity to transform these “eye-sores” into art. Here are some examples:

Rules:
-you may post 1 PHOTO ONLY
-you have TWO WEEKS to capture your photo
-no hating on photos, constructive criticism only
-we will have a voting thread to determine the top 5, then we will vote again to find the winner
-post your own photos (no stealing! You will be banned from the contest)
-click on embedded photos before judging, NS sucks the life out of them
-winner chooses the next topic
-you cannot win 2 times in a row, you can win twice, just not in a row
-PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go out and shoot! Do your best to not pull any files because it goes with the topic. We’re looking to have this be an active photography contest.

its not just the fact that its a shot of a leaf.

Trying to get a ground perspective looking up with a leaf that has already fallen, with the sun flaring in the background. Both of the photos are slightly over exposed (mine more-so).

I think the image is representative of the decay in out society and how we as americans (or humans in general) have come to a (very tubby) screeching halt in a world of ashes where nothing is truly as it seems and everything is nothing. This is the decay that is our modern age.

English has never been my forte. I knew cynicalism (yeah, Im sticking with it) wasn't the right even made up word, but it was the best I had. But dutch1 wasn't talking to me about a liberal education, nor do I have one.

your derisiveness aside....

prior to my inquiry I did formulate a couple of explanations:
1) humanity decaying our world to a baren wind blown wasteland
2) a decaying sinusoidal waveform engulfing the body as the ocean advances....

but, meh.....

As such either explanation was too much of a reach for me to really believe this was as good of a "less literal" and "still poignant" entry for the category as it was indicated to be. So I thought I'd make sure I didn't miss something. But, since I am clearly an idiot for missing whatever, I will have no issues voting a big NO on you behalf.

Another reason to love ns. What was intended as friendly banter turns into a misrepresentation of mockery. I can see now how it can be read otherwise.

My point was that my concept (while clear to me) doesn't really matter as imagery steps away from the literal. It is more important how the viewer perceives the image and how they connect (or don't) with it. No matter what my intention of taking the photograph was, you can't be in my shoes or fully connect with my concept, just as i can't fully connect with and comprehend your interpretation (given experiential and personal differences). My response wasn't an intention to knock you, just to say it is possible to think beyond the obvious/literal.

I also tried to express that i felt the image was "hopefully still poignant" and do not subscribe to any belief that everyone will love or respond positively to my imagery. I have met enough editors who are haters to fill a lifetime.

So, I will try to remember that on the internet people are generally on edge and will try to bubble wrap my thoughts in the future. cheers.

I would have to wholeheartedly disagree with your invalid fallacies, despite. This fact is clearly such due to my language, so outlandishly over-embellished for the internets.

What do people think about dumping pulls or photos we think fit in certain contest after the contest is over. Obviously not for voting purposes but just to showcase more ideas and examples. Also it would turn these contest threads into a sort of photo album dealing with the topic amassed by all members whether in the contest or not and only to be put in after the contest is over so things still stay neat and clean during the contest.
