But like avalanche danger, the real threat lies in us getting too comfortable around them, since 90% if the time you won't have any problems. It's those rogue bears you gotta watch out for.

Huh, this is really good to know, thank you. Clearly have a bunch to learn about bears. I'm on point with my bear bagging and leaving smells away from the campsite etc so I usually feel pretty safe. A little education never hurts. I'd feel silly carrying around bear spray but maybe it's not such a bad idea here

Yes. Grizzly bears, kodiak's, Siberian brown bear's, brown bears, etc are all the same species. There are regional differences (size, coat, etc) because of differences that come from different diets and stuff, but they are all the same animal.
Lockout kit. We use them at work, and they're really slick. Thought about buying one a while ago, and then last weekend camping a kid got locked in a car and we couldn't do anything to help. Decided it would be worth stashing in my truck.
