My stock ones are Shimanos, PD-M505s, but I detest them, especially after trying out a different pair of them at a demo day (I can't figure out which; the bike doesn't come with pedals stock and I didn't ask). Just the entry and release is brutal. I'd be looking at XC pedals, although I suppose I could use an upgrade to clipless on my neglected Slayer.
What do you ride? I'm on a stock KHS Yuma and I'm also looking for a crank upgrade if you've got anything you recommend.

lol at everyone making fun of the guy who bought the air intake. I'm pretty sure everyone knows you're not getting huge power gains by slapping in a cone filter and some new tubing, but for practically no cost, you can get somewhat improved throttle response, a few extra HP, and some extra go-fast noise at WOT. I really don't understand the hate. What were all of your first car mods, a big turbo and a new intake manifold?

Wait, wait, no...probably some $500 coils. Gotcha.

Did you adjust the tension on your M505's at all? My wife rides the M530's and she has had no problems with entry/release after turning the tension down since getting them.

I was used to riding XC SPD style pedals myself in the past, but find the newer "Trail" style pedals to be worth the slight weight gain.

I still swap between clipless and flat pedals from time to time to keep things interesting.

I am currently riding a Santa Cruz Chameleon and have a Race Face Atlas AM crankset which I have been loving.

I know!!!!! My local Beer Store doesn't have it yet, but the store in the town im in now has it. Tastes just like it did in Calgary.....now found my cheep drinking beer in Ontario.

I should probably at least try turning them down even more. I've lowered them a couple times but haven't felt a noticeable difference. I can't justify the trail pedals on my Yuma; although I'm not hardcore by any means I do race my Yuma and like I said, could just put trails on my Slayer instead. I'll look into Race Face, thanks.

I like the Trail pedals out here in the PNW because of the often wet conditions and lots of rocks/roots. The wider platform does offer a lot more traction than an XC style pedal when not clipped in through a section or so.

I'd be fine on standard XC SPD pedals, but decided to give the Trails a shot and love them. I am also using Five Ten Maltese Falcon shoes instead of race type cleats, so that does make the Trail pedals a bit more practical in my mind. The Five Ten's don't have a sole anywhere near as stiff as race cleats so the Trail pedals make up for that lack of stiffness with an increased surface area.

Regarding your search for cranks; Race Face makes awesome stuff. My Chameleon is built up extra beefy for all-mountain/xc riding so I went with a burlier crank. But they make plenty of light weight parts that would be more appropriate for a race bike, just depends on your budget and how light or trick you want to go. SRAM/Truvativ would also be worth a look.

go ahead and jump to conclusions, I'm surprised you didn't give him trouble about it first. I assume you are some sort of automotive master, I have worked with engines all my life. I would say its a waste, in most cases a pod filter doesn't do jack. And my first car was bored and stroked, I put in new brakes and dual carbs. I sold that car when I was 17, bought it for 600 sold it for 6500. haha a new intake manifold anyone can do that with a socket wrench, as far as turbos no thank you.

not much to tell, i tried to evade a huge pothole on a very narrow dirtroad in switserland, my left front tire hit a grass/mud patch on the roadside and pulled my car into the ravine, i wasn't going fast but since it was topheavy with a full skibox on the roof it started rolling even before i could hit the breaks properly...
I rolled twice and ended up about 20 or 30ft lower in a river bed which was luckily pretty dry since it happened in the middle of summer. I was driving and 2 of my best friends and my ex were in the car, none of them got injured so in the end we got extremely lucky !

and small sidenote, if it had happened like 10 minutes earlier the drop wouldn't have been 20ft but more like 200ft and certain death :P

no skis in them, it was summer ...

skibox was filled with climbing and camping gear

luckily our ice axes and crampons were in there and not inside the cabin cause stuff that was originally in the back of the car got thrown forward onto the dashboard. and trust me, 4 pair of sharpened ice axes flying through your car is not gonna be pretty .... :)

I have crankbros candy's and 5.10 stealths. highly recommended, I only wish that I didn't have to cut out all the rubber on the shoe before attaching the cleats. sick shoe-pedal combo, especially cause the shoe is also really good for platform pedals once the cleat is sunk into the sole of the shoe once you cut it out.

I've got the same, it's fucking awesome, only thing that sucks about it is the chest pocket, phone gets soaked if you put it in there, getting them both(black saga pants too) for 100$ was quite the steal.
