They're purpose built mountain bike shoes. they have 5.10 stealth rubber (also used in climbing shoes) on the bottom and grip like no other shoe. he's not buying these to look good walking down the street.

they're also better looking than my bike shoes:

look at the center cap, definite rota logo. grids also don't have the correct angles and width that volk's have. plus rotas are shit

i figured kids on ns are the #1 crowd for noticing things like that.    so i guess if he's hanging out with those types of kids all the time he'll get spotted.   but an everyday pedestrian would never notice,  i dont even know what all the hype is about this supreme stuff anyway.   im only hearing about it from newschoolers.
and like i said,  its still just a piece of fabric.   I have a fake MLB jersey and it works just fine
