they used to be used for straps to be put through to fasten things to them, or the other way around. but with no straps, they're really just for looks.

Haha word man. Yea we use it mostly for driving around camp to do maintenance and pack in our BMX trails and track. We've had a few in the past that got rallied a little too hard, so we're planning on taking a bit better care of this one.
