you just kind of have to choose what is available based on the time of day you want to go. There isn't really a rhyme or reason to the prices.
There's a flight that has one stop, is 7.5 hours, and is only $50 more/ticket, but we'd be flying down there in the evening and returning in the morning, rather than the other way around.
Then theres a flight that leaves seattle at 11pm, gets to cancun at 1pm, with 2 stops-- is 11.5 hours and is $1136 per ticket. Our flight is better than that at 10.5 hours for $538/ticket.
our goal was to get to mexico early on the day we get there, and leave late on the day that we leave to maximize our time there.
That left 3 flight options: stop in minnesota and michigan, atlanta, or houston. I chose the flight with the smallest layovers (33 minutes and 45 minutes) because we want to sleep on the plane. The others had 3 hour layovers and its hard to sleep in the airport. Two options were the same price, one was twice the price and I didn't see any advantage to it.
surprisingly a good majority of the flights from seattle to cancun stop in atlanta-- now THATS out of the way.
