park or pow?

but people are more chill in co because there is no mormon influence. Nightlife is probly better too. Although there are still tons of chill people in utah and good night life to be found.

utah all day you cant beat it as a location... park city within 25 mins of your house snowbird, brighton, alta, solitude 30 mins away and theres super chill people in utah and everyone skis. unless you search for it you don't notice too much of a mormon influence

This is probably the 50,000th thread with the same exact question. There is no right or wrong answer, it's a matter of personal opinion and experience. Do a little traveling and find out for yourself, only you can decide where you're most happy.

utah def. has better snow (lighter blower pow and more snow in general) but colorado people are so chill so the choice is yours

I've lived in Big Sky, Mammoth, and Park City but have yet to live in CO but I am there alot. With that being said I love skiing and LOVE live music and without living in CO yet I would diff pick CO in a heart beet. I nightlife here in Utah has been getting better and better over the years but it will never be as good as Denver/Boulder/FortCa....................

i have lived in colorado as well as utah and i believe colorado is way better overall. i currently live in utah but im moving to boulder next year

Other way around... Haha! Like literally... in Freeskier, Utah got more snow and Breck/Keystone/Copper were rated high on the park scale.

I seriously love UT and CO equally though and think it's almost too close of a call to tell.

UT and CO should just be one big happy state. Call it Cotah or Utorado.

park city is a really amazing place to ski. snowbird and canyons are really fun too. but if you're lookin for night life, colorado is head and tails above utah. summit county rages! and breck and key are really good mountains too! i'd say it's pretty even hah

utahs pow and cliffs blow colorado out of the water. colorado has better parks and is a much more chill place to live.

utah its got sick pow in snowbird and alta and one of the best parks a 30 minute drive from there in park city. but you really cant go wrong with either

the vibes in utah r getting better everyday. if u wanna party you wont have a problem with that in either state. if ur coming out for school i would say utah because of the convenience to the mtns

I have only ever ridden here in Colorado, and I love it and the parks, but I have always been wanting to go to Park City.

but yeah the night life in Summit is pretty rowdy, ALMOST as rowdy as Boulder

Gotta go with CO, you can always ski wolf creek or silverton if you really need the powder. No dis on UT as they have better snow, but living in CO is much more inline with the skiing lifestyle. I spent time in both growing up.

Never been to Utah but I like summit CO, the snow quality is pretty good, not as dry as other places though, but way better than PWN concrete.  Summit is nice because you got all 5 mountains within like half hour or less.  So maybe the quantity is enough to make up for the not completely epic snow?

Not as dry???? CO (and UT) has some of the driest snow on the entire planet... That's what has made our "champagne powder" world renowned.

I say CO. nightlife is way better. Breck and keystone have their amazing parks, if you want awesome pow, take a trip to wolf creek or silverton, if you want crazy lines take a trip to Crested Butte.

move to MN nothing tops skiing 200 feet of vert.

you never feel the leg burn

you dont even have to turn

all the snow is manmade and there are never any bumps because its ALL groomed everynight

first tracks in the morning are a real treat, the snow is rock hard perfect

the snowpack is rock solid, seriously, you wont even have to think about dinging your precious pow boards on a rock

nearly every chairlift is a top to bottom chair, none of this half, or 1/3rd of the way up the mtn shit.

2 January ago we set a state record for days without sunshine(think about it, sunshine is one of snows enemies you dont want the sun melting your precious snow)

it routinely drops down into the single digits

spirit mtn has the states only detachable quad, along with the second best non park skiing in the state


basically everyones just misleading you on where skiings at, cause its not at either of those two states.


o yeah, your season will be over by mid march, which is perfect cause by that point you will be ready to be moving onto something else.

I hate to say it but "champagne powder" is the utah pow, and that guy was right. Most of the snow that dumps in CO is much heavier than any snow that falls at places like Alta

No way man, maybe you got a good storm but the elevation of resorts in WY is lower than CO. The higher you go, the lighter the snow gets. The amount of air and moisture makes the smaller flakes and both are directly related to elevation.... You should know that, you grew up skiing the Sierras.

Um no, you're wrong. The word "champagne powder" originated in Steamboat Springs, CO. That is the only place in the world you will get snow like that. There has been a special on TV about it several times. Google it, and also see here.

(He wasn't saying UT was lighter snow, he was just saying how CO had heavier snow in general... and I said that's ridiculous. Never did I say CO had lighter snow, they're about the same.) Utah and Colorado have the same humidity levels, meaning they're both just as dry, except CO mountains average a few thousand feet higher. Let me explain- We all know the higher you are the colder it's going to be. When a storm front moves through mountains, the higher the mountains are, the harder it is for the systems to hold moisture. No moisture + colder temps = dryer snow.

There are places in UT like Brighton that are just as dry. On the powder level, they are nearly equal. It's just because of CO's elevation that we have a little lighter snow, but I will agree that UT gets more of it.

Ummm, that's bullshit. Steamboat just copyrighted the phrase. You can get "champagne powder" anywhere the snow is really light, whether that's in CO, WY, UT or wherever. You might just owe Steamboat some money for infringing on their copyright ;)

How I would rate states by snow lightness based on some experience and knowing people from all over these places would be

1. Montana/Wyoming (don't know enough to tell which is lighter
2. Utah
3. Colorado

That is just lightness, and any state gets storms that aren't their lightest so this is regarding their "prime" storms.
