A Question to the Longboarders

sup newschoolers, im makin a shlongboard and i was wondering if you had any advice.

for those of you who dont know what a shlongboard is, it's like a long board but made by moving the skateboard trucks back onto the heel and tail of the board.

what i wanted to know is if its better to use a wider deck, or a normal trick board. this is a question to the longboaders, are most longboards wider than normal skateboards? and would a wider deck handle better?

dude get a wide ass deck. trust me ive been rain ripping my skate with my 180 randalls and abec 11's and its so fast its scary. the wider the better.

oh and make sure to shred across lawns/gravel/dirt occasionally. if you got big wheels its the most fun thing ever

I was thinking about doing this. Hows does it handle tho? I like to slash it hard and poweslide from time to time and I just do think a shlong would handle too well

if its for cruising, then dont slongboard it. just put em on normal, then you have the option to ollie and manual which will make the board a lot more fun

also ns, i just found like a really old plastic board, (like lords of dogtown style) and it has these urethane wheels that are wider than normal skateboard wheels, should i use these?

lords of dogtown style? like for real? you could reference it as like z-flex style... or z-boyz or just anything that doesn't reference it to such a shit movie.

what you want is some GFH chubbies or fatties.

dude that's pretty sweet but you definitely do need bigger wheels and wider trucks. itl make that board so playful and fun to cruise. idk about those wheels though. the bearing are all rusted out and they don't look too stable. just get a longboard set of trucks and wheels and put that on. good answer?

This. You need bigger wheels but if you dont get trucks you gonns be dealing with wheel bite

Also if your gonna stick with the trucks you have try risers and mount the trucks backwards.

thanks guys +k to both, and the trucks i have are actually pretty big bigger than normal street board trucks. i just got back and it was super fun but i can definitly see how longboard wheels are different than skate ones cuz ive ridden longboards and theyre so much smoother, ill look into getting better wheels. ...you guys wanna sell me your used ones? lol

ok dude what you need to do is go buy some nail polish remover (make sure its got a lot of acetone in it). get those old school wheels you have and open up the bearrings

once there open get a bowl and spray some acetone in it then let your bearings soak in it for about 20 mins, the after just dab them in the acetone and spray em with the bottle a little bit. then get a paper towl and wipe them dry.

after that go take off the skateboard wheels and put those fat suckers on, if you cleaned it properly they'll be fast as fuck and perfect for cruising.

but if you dont want to clean the bearings you could pry them out somehow (its hard if there rusty) and then use your skateboard bearings.

tip. you dont need to take the bearings out of the wheels if your cleaning them, you just need to open the little ring that houses the bearing balls.

oh and if your buying wheels then buy new bearings too. it would be dope if you got longboard wheels/bearings

You can just go to home depot or the like and get acetone, 100%, none of the nail polish remover stuff. But then you need to lubricate your bearings. Bones speed creame, white lithium grease and other types of oils work. It's like less than 10 dollars, maybe less than 5.

I have a question for longboarders. Why do you push mongo? So many people around my campus push mongo and I'm like lol wut. I guess cause they're not skateboarders or just got a board solely for transport but still. What makes you get on a bard and push mongo?

thanks so much dude i already got you at 10/10, and the other guy. but what i did is i got new wheels (69mm sector 9's) and just used my normal skate bearings after cleaning them. the old school wheels were completely rusted to the trucks and couldnt even get the wheels off. my board is so fast and smooth now, got my wheels cheap too

ya its super sick and playful its got like a perfect bend in the middle too. i was bombing some hill today and i got speed wobbles bad and i leaped of and tan itno some guys yard and collapsed...the guy was pretty impressed lol

Same at my school too and my roommate pushes mongo, I give him shit alllll the time. He wonders why hes always eating it on small cracks. "I have a longboard, I just dont get it"...Mongo

dude if youre making a deck, the wider the better. itll make it more fun for cruising and downhill. check this board out, its not a shlongboard, but its similar style, a know a few kids with it and its a real nice ride.

as far as wheels, you should put some bigger ones on it. check out orangatangs or cadillacs. and wider trucks are better, like 180

I push mongo when im just riding around or the start of bombing a hill just because i find I can get more power.

For riding bowl i push normal. But I love mongooooo lol.

dude, I don't get it either.

I longboard, sometimes for fun, often just to get around campus though. Seriously though I am in the minority here for pushing regular. Like how do you have any control pushing mongo? if you need to turn while pushing, good luck getting any control there. what if you hit a crack while pushing? the nose of your board could end up anywhere. if you accidentally put your centre of mass too far back (heavy pack maybe), oh shit, no board behind you do fall back on.

It just seems stupid and more complicated to me.

And as a normal skateboarder too, for longer than I've owned a longboard, it's considered bad style. I push mongo when switch but lots of people do it in switch.

I push mongo because its more comfortable to me. I can push the other way but I just have better control of the board pushing mongo.I learned that way long ago so it just stuck. I just longboard to get around campus and avoid driving drunk so it doesn't matter too much if I look like a noob.

seriously once you get it the other way it will make everything way easier. If you have a pack on and have to foot brake, you have like a 1000% better chance of not eating shit as well.

It's like learning how to ski not in the backseat. It gets easier and you look way better.
