what are some that stand out... ( i know UBC and SFU) and what ones are the closest to the hills?

UBC: Close to skiing, ridiculously dope school. High entrance average though, you can get into some faculties with as low as like 75 but for arts and science you more or less need 85 and up.

SFU: Easier to get into, but on the top of a hill which is super far from anything, closer to skiing though I think.

UVic: Easy to get into. Party School. You won't be skiing, mount washington is at least 3 hours.

Quest: Only offers liberal arts/sciences degree. Super close to skiing (squamish) but not the greatest school. They offer massive entrance awards if you have a good average though, 90% will get you a full ride.

I suggest applying to all and then figuring it out later. Definitely go to UBC if you can though.... I'm here now and its ridiculous. Tons of fun, science is a bitch though so unless you are 100% dedicated to taking that I suggest against it. My courses are slowly killing me.

There's a big business school, photo is better at okanagan I think.

There's a culinary school downtown too, it looks pretty big. Look into that if you're interested, being downtown all the time would be amazing.

Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. I'm doing a B.B.A program here and it's pretty good, from what I hear the arts program is decent too. Sun peaks is about 45min to an hour away, Harper (small local mountain) is like a half hour. Revelstoke is not too far, easy to make a day trip. If you have a pulse you'll be able to get in...

Yeah my family has been looking into Thompson River for me (possibly after BA in Ontario) and my bro (gr 12 now). They have a wicked Teacher's college type program that i am not going to even be able to be accepted into, but it sounds great.
I think you can study to be a pro Ski Tour Guide too which is sweet!

No Uni's are really that close to skiing in Vancouver. All usually a minimum 30 min drive. And that Uni is Squamish is 40 minutes from anything lift accessed.

UBC Okanagan campus is a good option, they have a shuttle running to Big White from their campus.

but yes, you should go. it truly is the best option in BC for an excellent school and access to unreal skiing.

ye im at Thompson Rivers in Kamloops. I am in the adventure studies program which is basically anything fun, and there are small courses I can take in photography, as well as go on to do some kind of business degree if I really wanted. There is also a sick Culinary program at the school they really do it up nice. Full on Meat shop and all.

Kamloops kinda sucks there is no snow but your 15 minutes from some shit hill with a park, 45 from Sun peaks which sounds decent, 2.5 hours from Revelstoke (and its a super easy drive no Rogers Pass shit), and 3 or 4 hours from Whistler depending on which way you go. Its the most centrally located place so you have lots of options to choose from.

Digressing from the topic, +k for the UBC but what are the entrance grades for American international students? Is it the same 85 average just converted into a 4.0 American Grade point scale?

if your looking into a culinary program, check out BCIT. It's in Vancouver, but I'm pretty sure they have culinary programs. I'm at its sibling school (SAIT), in Calgary. SAIT has alot of culinary programs. Plus it's close to Kicking Horse, Lake Louise, Sunshine, Norquay and C.O.P.

I grew up in Kamloops and went to UCC before it became TRU.

The town isn't anything special, but we don't have as many bikers or Jersey Shore-douchebags as Kelowna. And it's close to everything. 

Harper Mountain is kinda shit skiing, but night skiing with a six-pack is fun.  And they have some fun tubing up there.  Sun Peaks has some nice terrain.  Silver Star and Big White are both within a two-hour drive.

I went to uvic and still got at least 40+ days at Whistler but it was about a 9 hour commute both ways and it wouldn't have worked if i didn't have tons of friends at UBC. But the skiing on the island can be pretty sick, mount wash is decent and mount cain is probably going to get the most snow ever this year and the best part about it is that its only open on weekends. last year they got 7 feet of snow in one week.

And UVic kicks ass for all other aspects, a very fun school.
