Ar7 with sth 16 or jester ?

Ye I rode at a DIN 9 this winter so. Were thinking more about the weight of the bindings, durability and stuff

U don't really wanna be at the bottom end of a bindings range either, so if u plan on riding dead at 9 i'd say jesters cause they r 6-16. I havemt heard of durability issues with either, and if ur looking for a high din binder weight isn't really an issue, cause one of them are especially light.

Unless your skiing like Abma you're not gonna need anything above Din 14, complete waste of money. I'd say 10 would be the absolute max for your weight (and that'd be in pow).

I'm 6"4 and I have my race ski's on Din 10 and 11 when I'm racing. My park ski's are on Din 7.5 I think and I hit like 40-50 ft'ers with them, never had a problem landing or anything. Even when slamming in to the ground, backseat or w/e I never got outta my bindings.

Just buy griffons or sth 12's. Those'll do the job. Especially when you're not gonna take your ski's outta the park/groomers you're sure as hell not gonna need anything above 12. Unless you want a torn ACL ofcourse, but that's up to you...

Dont give anyone din advise, ever, unless your a certified tech who knows his shit.


Also if your rode a din 9 last year the sth 14 drivers, fks 155's would be a good choice. Riding a din 9 on griffons and sth 12's really isnt the best idea.

"Disclaimer my binding suggestions above a good choice for people who ride at 8.5+ din, if you are any lower get a binding that starts lower. You always want to be at least 2 from the bottom and 2 away from the top."

14 is not low they go to 14 not 12 its a big difference.

Only in the heel.  Im looking at a pair right now and they have a plastic toe pedestal.  The sth16 has metal reinforcement in the toe, the sth 12/14 drivers do not.  Thats why the price gap is so significant.

sounds like you're built about the same as me. 916s, unless you're hitting legitimately scary big jumps where you're in a situation where you're better off with your ski staying on if you don't stomp something perfectly, are going to be way overkill. now that they brought back the steel toe, they're bomber, for sure, but like someone said previously, you don't want to be running your binding at the very low or high end of it's DIN range.

as an example, by the DIN chart, i should be running an 8.5 on my bindings, with a 315mm boot sole. i usually ride a 9 or 9.5 in the toe and 10 in the heel. this puts me dead center of the DIN range on my pivot 14s. even though they don't have the metal toe of the fks155/185 or pivot 18, they're still super burly, aside from the brakes. the brakes suck, sorry. that said, i think the pivot 14 is what you're looking for.

I am a ski instructor and I'm certified too so...ye...I reckon I could give advice. Besides, my boss, ex World-Champion, says you really don't need anything above din 16 unless you're fucking Herman Maier and 14 if you're just a very good amateur.

What your saying is pretty much the same thing I said, but then with flaming me, making me look like a loser and showing that you're an asshole...

Sorry for offending you. I guess i could have used a different word then shut up.

And i never said anyone needs over a 16 din binding, You dont look at the top number when you buy a binding you look at the bottom number.
Like jesters start at 6 he would have no problem riding them, but sth 16s start at 9 so they would not work.

Thats why riding a din 10 on a 12 din binding really isnt the best idea.

If he says he's riding a din 9 then he can easily get a 12 binding. I said it's an absolute waste to get a din 16 binding coz' he ain't gonna ride at 14 din anyway...

It depends on the binding.  I really don't think people should judge the binding by the top number.  When people think of STH 16, they should think 9-16, not just 16, and when people think of Jester, they should think of 6-16.  The difference between the Jester and STH 16 is that the middle of the STH 16 is 12-13 while the middle of the Jester is 11-12.  With that said, I think OP could ride the Jester, but not the STH 16.  He should go for the FKS 140 or STH 14 Driver instead.

That, or the 916 driver design is tried and true as well for the fks. The marker is not.

the 916 has a low din of 9 so he really does not wanna go with that jesters would be better than griffons because they are more durable.  STH 14 drivers are a good choice as well as fks 155 or 14  and another binding that i absolutely love is the peak 15 or any rebrand of it

You mean the 916 has a high* low din of 9 so he wouldn't need that.  And OP: your first choice at bindings should be FKS 140/155 and STH 14 Driver, then Peak/Mojo 15.  If you actually can't find any of those for cheap, Jesters should be a very, very last resort.  But you should have no trouble finding those for cheaper than Jesters.

there's nothing wrong with riding at the high end of your DIN scale ...
so think about it ....

especially on my park skis i almost never ride high din ....
(for reference, my park skis are din7 and my freeride skis are around 10)

springs aren't like they used to be, it isn't bad for the binding ....

and i don't think you can go wrong with either sth16 or jester ....

but if you get the sth16, get the driver toe, otherwise the jester is the best option without a doubt ....

wow, messed that up a little, im still detoxing from yesterdays party :)

I meant to say that choosing a lower din binding and cranking it up to 1 or 2 din below the max isn't bad at all, for old bindings it used to be a bad idea, but the newer ones can handle it ....
my choice for you (if you decided you need 16dins) is first choice STH16 driver toepiece, jester (close tie between those two) and then last choice sth16 with regular toepiece ....

And to OP if you want durability i'd go for the STH driver 14. it's pretty solid for someone that rides at 9.

^this, and yes a new bindings spring may be ok for a season if u crank it up within 1 or 2 of the high end of the din range, but it will eventually begin to wear out, resulting in inevitable pre-release problems

jep you're right, i was mixing it up with the sth14, that comes in both versions :)

but still, if 16din is rather high for the OP, he could consider sth14 driver toe as an alternative ....

i own ar7's and i have just some rossi 12s on them and they are sold, but it seems you need a stronger din for large jumps and what not, so i guess its somewhat personal preferance or depends what is more durable in my opinion
