The shooting came as a surprise to students who said they know the teen who was arrested.

"I've been knowing him since elementary school," said 16-year-old Lizeth Perez, an 11th-grader at the school. "He would do tricks on his skateboard. It's incredible how he could do something like this. It doesn't seem like him."

As if this incident doesn't make me sick to my stomach with worry for our society, this just made me straight up depressed:

I don't understand what happened. The kid walked into the security office and said he wanted to talk then showed a gun? The gun went off but the officer wasn't shot, then police searched the school and found items that weren't bombs?

This is messed up but not that heinous. Nobody was injured and some kid wanted attention? Much worse shit happens every day.

dude, in the middle of the article it says there were previous shootings, one where a student resource officer shot and killed a student for coming at him with knives and guns, thats pretty badass for the cop

it's him or the kid. I'd have shot the kid too. Good to see that the officer was able to use their training in a situation which called for it.

This kid though, is just an attention craving fucked up kid. If he'd wanted to shoot someone, he would have. Just like the kid at UT. He has the complete advantage, as no one is expecting it, but they both gave away their advantage of surprise. So they both just wanted attention.

Good work though by this officer also. Not sure how I'd react if a kid came into my office and pulled a gun. Wonder what he did to manage not to get himself or anyone else shot.

Usually its an acutal police officer from your town/city, that is positioned inside the school to keep an eye on things and help keep things like this from happening. They can carry in school so they've got some protection if shit went bad. sorry for dub post btw.

no, its a cop who is in uniform and lucked out and all he does is do stuff for the school. According to my cousin who is an officer, he said that it is one of the best jobs in the department along with community resource officer.

that's wack that you/anyone has to have a cop in your school. my high school just had a big dude who was the dean of students and proctored general detention and suspended kids and such.

Just recently there was a party off campus at one of the colleges by me where a kid tried to crash the party, he was roughed up a little and thrown out and all he said was something along the lines of "Oh, I'll be back alright..." So when he did show up he opened the front door and just started shooting. Four were injured and a 19 year old girl was killed. Sadistic people=our crumbling society.

What the kid did was fucked up, but if you read his twitter you saw he said his dad yelled at him so bad he was contemplating suicide. So even though the blame for the school shooting lies on the kid, his parents are probably the reason for his actions.

thats a part of police officers jobs, they dont dwell on it, they move on.
Just like for doctors, sometimes they mess up in surgery and can ruin some ones life or even kill them, but they let that get to them, they move on and try not to make that mistake again.
