Replying to Lets the race begin.....

I saw this in my local Denver news.  It's pretty exciting.  You can almost smell winter in the air in the evening.  Read below.

GEORGETOWN - There have been a lot of changes in the high country over the past few days. Leaves are turning, some peaks have gotten their first dusting of snow and on Friday, the Loveland Ski Area started making snow, which means ski season isn't too far away.

"The race is on. It's a very exciting time; we have guns going for the first time," John Sellers from Loveland Ski Area said. "Looks like it will be cool for the next few nights, and they will try to capitalize on it and keep making snow."

It's not enough to break out the skis and snowboards yet, since it is only a covering at high altitude. With snow making underway it's just a matter of time before the runs are covered and the slopes open for the season.

"Things are rolling and we will be skiing in a few weeks," Sellers said.

Traditionally, it's a race between Loveland and Arapahoe Basin to see who is first in the country to open for the ski season. Every year, one of the two resorts generally sees skiers on the hill around Oct. 15.
