does anyone know that effect in the majority of ski movies where the screen shows a red, orange, and white blur effect?

all you need to know about film burn is don't use film burn.

It's a film burn.  Some editing programs have a so so version of this.  for FCP you can download a plugin or buy and plugin an effects package.  Usually the package comes with 100+ effects that do not come on the stock package.

gnah you wrong amigo. Quite a lot of people still do, and it looks amazing. And you don't need 35 to have a burn. 8mm ones look pretty good.

pbp still used film a couple years ago... but i thought they switched over. and i thought they were one of the last "major" production companies to switch over to digital...

maybe i'm wrong though. could you post a few people i would recognize who still shoot film?

You don't need 35mm to get a film burn; any type of film will do. Also, 98% of major films are still shot on 35mm because DPs are finding that RED cameras aren't that great.

PBP still shoots stuff in 16. the park shoot this year had 16 in it. its better stock though compared to Happy Dayz etc.

90% of MSP's The Way I See It is Super 16mm film. Film burn comes at the end of a shot when the film slows down to a stop and extra exposure to light causes the final frames to wash out. It's more prevalent at the end of rolls. It's kind of funny to see people applying film burn effect on digital sources. It's like...I dunno. Totally fake.

when you screw your lens on, put a strike anywhere match head between the camera and lens press record then shake your camera.
