i must have missed that memo. i demand answers. do they make the sport too complicated? what the fuck am i supposed to do with my hands, pull my dick out and shake it around for the camera?

they stopped using poles when they stopped skiing correctly.

Seriously why the fuck should anyone care?! Does skiing have to be on, defined thing with a defined set of rules. For me skiing is pretty much sliding on anything with something attached to each foot. If you like skiing with poles, well then ski with poles, if you don't well then don't....

that is a horrable comparison.    poles can't save your life.   execpt this one time at bach in the northwest territory when the snow sluffed off and slide and i was heading for a tree and put up my poles infront of my face and they took the brunt of the blow...  and btw i do not wear a helmet.  only when i am on a bike do i wear one.

I use poles when i ski park but their only like 2 and a half feet long look steezed out if you ask me but i kinda agree only some people can pull off no poles and not look like fags

i have skiied some extremely technical steep stuff with no poles. ill admit, my performance is slightly lower without them when skiing something super steep and technical, but i feel so much better and smoother while skiing it. i just cant charge quite as hard. but id rather ski smooth and surfey than GET SOME, earn your turns, proper style, charge it bro! style.
ive been skiing so long without poles now that i feel more uncomfortable with them. yes if you just try it randomly your gonna have a hard time with super hard technical skiing. but after doing it for like 3 years straight, and like 2 years on and off before that, it just feels better.

As you do not wear a helmet that is why you find it a horrible comparision.... in the backcountry poles are used for alot more than standard use for exampe they help check snow layers... thus checkig aby danger... if you did an avy course you would realise.

Is this still an issue? I remember this was always brought up a couple years ago but I figured people moved on.. I guess not?

they really dont.

when i effed up my arm i quit being able to use poles, if aything my skiing has IMPROVED without them. you dont need them, ski a season without and you'll learn to not love poles so much anymore.

please dont ever compair skiing to baseball there is a reason i ski and dont play baseball its because i can break the rules (ski without poles) if i want and you or anyone else cant do anything about it.

I became OK with no poles after watching Idea. Before that, I just didn't think it could be done while looking good, but I've realized that pow no poles is THE BOMB

When i shoot, i leave my poles at home and sometimes the shoot isnt working so i ski after lunch... without poles. You may feel better cuz u can push urself off the chair at the top and you can pull urself through the lines. and you have some freedom with your hands to like... not carry poles, maybe put ur hands down ur side without poles dragging. i can see why people like skiing without them, i dont have a problem either way... i like poles cuz they give me balance when im shreddin.
I also work on the hill, carrying stuff and setting shit up, so poles are left at the bottom again. so i ski the whole work day without poles (and 90% of the time without gloves cuz as well im bad ass) and i still have no prob skiing without em. so for me i have my reasons to ski without poles, sometimes in the pow i like to leave my poles and drag my hands in the snow. i know the technical use of poles and pole planting, i can move, keep my rhythm, stay balanced just as well without poles as i can with em.

basically with poles and without em. i like it both ways. i prefer poles when im not shooting or working but either way i dont have a problem, so why do all of you?
