for park, which is all like 90% of the kids on here do they dont. personally even when im bc skiing i only use them if i have to traverse long distances or skin, but when im going downhill they go in the backpack and i do perfectly fine.
yes they do make it a little easier when it comes to BC skiing, but they make it less fun IMO.

I don't see how they don't serve a purpose for some in th epark. It's like a balance thing sometimes, the same reason a tightrope walker holds the giant pole.

its more of a habbit thing. i think they do as much harm as good. they restrict you as much as the balance thing would help you. after like 4 years of not using poles, i tried it for a day last year. and i sucked, i couldnt do half the stuff i normally do. it felt wierd and akward. where the first day i dropped my poles it still felt wierd, but in a good way, i was instantly having so much more fun.

seems to me like doing away with poles is like flipping the ezmode switch. hey, now's its easier to do grabs and i dont have to worry about having these things dangling in my way.

pretty pathetic if you ask me. and it isn't stylish, it looks goofy as fuck. plus, it's like training yourself for park skiing only. who the fuck wants to exclusively park ski. im pretty sure you arent going to see any back country ballers rockin that no pole garbage, because it's real skiing, unlike you fags who just noodle around the park all day like skaters who jib the same rail over and over and over and think they're hardcore.

that's exactly how i feel, but not how 98% of ns feels. we will never be properly heard. skiing with no poles and dressing like a midget who found big person clothes automatically makes you better at skiing. everybody knows this

oh so you're saying REALLY good skiers don't need poles because they're SO good already?

i'd be curious about your definition of backcountry. i can't really imagine skinning or bootpacking without poles. remember, powder on the side of a groomer is not backcountry

no i really dont give a shit how much skill it takes, believe it or not i do like to ski for fun every now and then.

like i said earlier i do use poles for backcountry if im skinning or whatever. but i put them in my backpack for the way down.

i dunno i always used poles untill i worked at a ski area.. and it was just easer to cary stuff and not worry about pole... i raced with poles of course and when im doing gnar stuff its nice cause some times your on a steep pitch and you need it to keep up... it depends on how i feel when i go out.  the last pair of nice poles i had were these carbon fiber ones that got jackd from the employe locker room at copper.     i allways have poles in my car and shit.  for just crusen and park no poles.

First if you don't use poles you are a douche plain and simple...unless you are just learning how to ski and thats how they teach you...anything else you are a giant douche if you don't use poles

Tall tees are for faggots ladies and gentlemen and same with wearing the stupid fucking basketball jerseys that are quad xl its completely stupid i dont care if you are pro...your moms pro or you want to be pro you look like a fucking fool with the tall tee dangleing below your knees...and i've seen some people wearing them out in public at a mall and shit....seriously its just as bad as goth kids and hollister kids....fuck...i mean jesus christ some peoples tall tees are so long they could step on them while stepping into their bindings or it gets in the way while reaching for a cup of coffee at caribu like why the fuck would you want some baggy as piece of clothing that doesn't properly fit getting in the way of your coffee or donut at dunkin donuts or galric sitcks and alfredo at olive garden....

except for that whole balancing thing, and i know "you look super steezy with no poles" but you actually dont, actually going out and skiing something other then park is mad hard, try going out and skiing a steep ass chute, like zutes chute at breck  which is mad fun.  so yah they do serve a purpose.

this. I ski backcountry a lot and many of my buddies don't use poles when skinning. Sure it makes it a little harder to skin up, but for them the way down is worth it. I've personally busted out my teeth because of my poles in the park so I can def. see why people wouldn't use them. And plus, skiings all about having fun. If someone has more fun without using poles what's the big deal? It's not affecting anyone but them so why do we care so much. If more people worried about themselves there wouldn't be as many lame hate threads on no poles and tall tees. Worry bout yourself and have fun!

and if you haven't experienced a pow day without poles on soft, flat rockered skis I suggest you give it a try with your homies.

have you ever seen anyone ski aggressivly off-piste/backcountry with out poles? I think not...
They help you with a lot.

IMO skiing without poles is like skiing without a helmet.... STUPID.

Honestly it doesn't really matter anymore, so many kids go straight to the park they cant ski properly anywhere else. Also people ski switch just as much as forward so half the time they really aren't necessary. As for me, the only time I don't use poles is when it's raining, which is when I just do stupid shit like handdrags and front handsprings.

dude there are plenty of skiers that kill it in deep pow without poles. Check out the latest stept film, so many sick BC skiers without poles. Witt foster's one example but there's so many more.

I always ski with poles, don't get me wrong here. Who wants to exclusively park ski? not everyone has a mountain to do some good real skiing as you say it, my home mountain has a 200ft vertical and it takes 10 seconds to get down the longest run. It's incredibly boring, so the park gives us a chance to have some fun even though it's terrible and small. Without a park nothing would make me buy a season's pass, again I love to do real skiing so when I get to go on a ski trip to some mountains I get to do it. We aren't fags who just noodle around the park like skaters, we are just a bunch of unlucky skiers who have nothing better to do. gtfo

my poles are like my tail when I ski. they're just there to provide good balance. that said, I really wish I could do a cartwheel or frontflip with them...that shit's awesome.

I tried skiing with poles last year cause I was drunk and cause it was a shitty day and there wasn't much else to do.
