I hear you.
Those are some valid points, and certainly drawbacks of texting as a legit form of communication. However, they mostly come into play when you're talking about something reasonably important, emotional, or subjective in some other way - they're just words on a screen, so there's no real way of knowing what someone truly meant, or "how" they're saying it, and so on ... if you want an answer or response that qualifies in this regard, you're right - call them.
