we skied from the top of cowboy yesterday, it was much better than I expected up there, none of us did any serious damage. Great first run

But it seemed like we would need a LOT more snow to open, maby 20 more thick inches at the base.

And I have to switch to snowboarding for most of my time up this year... anybody who mostly skied powder have to do that at Stevens on here?

I snowboard and ski. Snowboardings my major, skiings my minor. I just sold my ski boots yesterday because I need to buy a car, so snowboarding it is for me most of this season.

Well they don't even have 2 feet of snow. Considering how cold it is, much of what is falling is quite light and dry. So they need more than a foot of snow (possibly more), plus a favorable forecast, so it makes sense that they aren't too presumptuous. It isn't even turkey day yet. Patience is a virtue

They might have to be sold for snowboard setup money... they're by far best for re-sale of all my skis... i also need another pair of boots

Today was pretty sick, I boot packed to the top of Big Chief, the base of 7th heaven and the top of Hogsback alone. I wanted to go to the top of Double Diamond and 7th Heaven but the snow was just to deep once you got off the cat tracks. It took me about 5 hours to do the nearly 3000 feet of elevation gain and damn was it tiring. The snow was pretty good but it was ridiculously cold, my water bottle froze up. Regardless it was one of the best days I've had on snow. Fresh tracks on all three of my runs. Here are the only two pictures I got before my camera battery died.

The snow coverage is really good except that there are a bunch of creeks poking out everywhere. But the cats were out there all day packing the snow in the main areas. The road is also straight up dirt now, my subaru is now all black, awesome.

I might be going up tomorrow to so talk to me if you want a ride.

Stoked to skin a bit when I return this weekend.

And since most people on here won't do it anyway, I'll just suggest this: if you're looking for relatively unskied but great coverage, set a skin track from the top of Hogsback to the top of 7th and lap it until you giggle yourself to death.

when i went up on saturday i hiked up the big cheif cut across and it was a solid boot pack and skin track up. and theres a cat track from the bottom dasiy up to top of hogs thats got maybe 2 inch of snow on it and its rock hard. then theres a bootpack and skin pack up seventh. it was sick up on seventh but i was too tired to go do it again. worth the 2 hour hike though

Both achilles, both ankles, and my right shin all have problems that ski boots make worse. Especially my right shin though, and it's not shin bang/splints, and my stiff boots don't help.

I'll get some annoyingly soft and wider ski boots soon, and use those when I can ski which probably won't be too many days.
