Cut helmet to fit icons?

has anyone else done this? I'm currently trying but it isn't working too well.
If so post pics, or explain how you did it.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but you are retarded.

In a hard shell helmet like you have there, the eps foam is adhered to the pre-molded outer shell. The outer shell does nothing in terms of protection from impact, maybe from sharp objections (such as a tree branch) from unnecessarily compressing the foam, but has absolutely nothing to do with absorbing any type of blunt impact.

On an In Molded helmet (like most bike helmets, or ski helmets similar to Giro's G10) there is some degree or structural support from the thin net molded shell in an impact, but very little still.

In both styles of helmet, the outer shell is primarily designed to prevent the eps foam from distorting under impact, and cushioning the blow the way its supposed to.

Go read the CPSC or Snell guidelines for helmet safety standards. You'll realize how completely absurd it is to tamper with the integrity of the helmet like that, let alone use a helmet that's already been through a substantial collision.

no hate, but a helmet is a single unity functioning only as a complete whole. if you make it not complete the helmet will not absorb the impact the same way as it would normally. It is not "specifics" or making your helmet only "90%" as good- it is wrecking your helmet.

My business unit at Atomic is also in charge of helmets. I've seen too many helmets and tests done to say otherwise. What you are doing is completely unsafe.

Bad idea. The structural integrity will be destroyed, as well as the effectiveness of the helmet.

Many people just put the bands down (so, rather than going over your head, they go behind your neck), or as my coach did, cut the bands off so they're two separate parts.

Or even easier, just listen with buds. I'm sure you can find some that fit your ears.

i've smashed my head on rocks with no helmet and not gotten a concussion... will this not provide much more support than no helmet at all?

i find it quite hysterical. "i smashed my head on rocks, no helmet, and didnt get a concussion". thats a blatant lie. you can get a concussion and have no idea, hence why football players try to stay in games when theyre obviously hurt. theres no way you can "smash" your bare head against a rock and not incur some serious head trauma/death

Seriously...

What angers me in this thread is that some people who were suggesting not to do this and telling the kid that he's retarded were saying that he should just wear a hat and "not fall on his head".

Wearing this is so much more protective than not wearing a helmet, and while it does degrade the structural integrity, it doesn't effect it that much that it wouldn't save his life when not wearing a helmet wouldn't.

Its still stupid that you cut it up, but it is still tremendously more safe than not wearing a helmet.

Yeah normal Earbuds hurt badly when youre wearing them. but IN-ear buds are the most comfortable thing ever. SO just look for some of those
