If it is currently night time for you, i strongly recommend everybody go outside and look at Jupiter, at least if your into that kind of thing. Its a full moon tonight, so you wont be able to see a lot of other stars, and it will stick out like a sore thumb. Just look at the moon, then look diagonally down to the left a little bit, and it will be the second brightest thing in the sky. If you have a decent pair of binoculars or a telescope you will be able to see Jupiter's moons as well. It wont be this close again for another 70 years, so i everybody should definitely go take a look. Now get at it.
Yeah i saw that on NASA's page too. I stand corrected, i figured you cant have too much hype for it though. I'm glad a lot of you got to see it, it was definitely awesome.
Jupiter usually looks pretty good whenever it is above the horizon. I have a decent telescope and usually get great views of its cloud bands and also the 4 Galilean moons. Here's a couple stills (used video camera through telescope) from last summer. Included a moon still I got also. Enjoy!
here in ny its just the moon and jupiter right below it and its really bright. really sad i dont have bincs or a telescope to see the moons. thanks for the heads up, astronomy is so cool
