At a 114 years: Happy Birthday Walter Breuning

I made this thread last year when Walter Breuning (now considered the Worlds oldest man) turned 113, now he turns 114 years old today: which is almost half as old as our country here in North America!

I live in Great Falls, Montana with Walter. I used to wait tables on him in highschool years ago.

he does not eat dinner

he wears a suit and tie every day

he has his health (mostly) and his memory

his eyes have deteriorated so badly he cannot read the paper so it is read to him. he also gets his news through the radio and TV.

he whistles everywhere he goes

really nice guy and he doesnt really care that he is the oldest man in the world.

his wife passed away in the 50s and he has no children

pretty crazy if you ask me. the amount of history this guy has been through is like no other.

i have no idea why he doesnt eat dinner. im sure ive asked him when i worked with him. he eats a big breakfast and a healthy lunch. i suppose he doesnt burn that many calories so he doesnt need to eat dinner.

Not really strange at all. They offer a unique perspective on things because they grew up without a lot of things we take for granted now, so they experienced things in a completely different way than we did.

it really is amazing.

the USA is 234 years old and half of that is 117. Walter is 114.... he is almost half as old as our country. thats crazy. he said the problem is he can remember to dam much. he remembers his grandfather telling him about fighting for the Union during the civil war!

i never got to actually sit down and talk to him for as long as i wanted.

he said one of his greatest memories is when they shut down the banks in 29. he said we have no idea what a depression is. he said people moved across the country packed in boxcars trying to find work. there was NO work. he said FDR was probably his favorite president but thought he would have a much tougher time as president if we did not have world war 2.

the best thing i can wish for now is to make another thread this time next year when he turns another year to 115!

for 114 years old...this guy looks pretty damn good. health, happy, and still alert despite the typical wear/tear from old age, this guy is immortal.

thats crazy, my great grandpa was an old farmboy from ohio born the same year and died at 108.  Didnt go into a nursing home untill I think about 2 months before he passed and my mom made him stop driving at 101 because of vision.  Once it got close it became a goal of his to live through 3 centuries..crazy
