Premiere was last night if anybody caught it- IMO I think this show will be another HBO classic- the level of acting, set design, combined with being directed by Scorsese-which means the fight and shooting scenes were completely brutal and fucked up- just an awesome show in general-

HBO has some fucking sweet shows and movies. The Pacific is probably my favorite HBO series. Boardwalk Empire looks so sick.

I smoked a bowl after the football game and this show was blowing my mind. I only made it about 10 mins but it is on the DVR, pretty stoked about it though.

Am I the only one who wasn't that impressed? I mean... I didn't hate it, I'm just hoping the second episode will get a little better..... It feels like its trying to be Mad Men. I'm definitely going to tune in to see where it goes though, no doubt about that.

Started slow...though every first episode is to build the plot and characters.

Though I did enjoy it, and it is absolutely wrong to base an opinion off one episode let alone the very first episode.

I think it should be a great series.

Agreed. Thats why I'm really hoping the second follows up with more pace and draws me in. either way.... I'm definitely watching. Its going to be hard to compete with the new season of Dexter though. Not saying one is better, but Dexter has a huge following and i think they are the same time slot. Thank you DVR, I knew there was a reason I paid 150 a month!!

ya I was stoked on that. I thought it was very well done but at this point I am having a hard time figuring out characters. For example the young kid who went to war from New York. Everyone says he is smart but he has done nothing to reinforce this and he seams stupid and arrogant. Steve Bushimi (sp) 's character is fucking awesome.

Overall I am stoked on it, it seams like Mad Men has set the bar pretty high for period TV dramas when it comes to accuracy and attention to detail. Also the death scene special effects were brutal.

i watched it, but i was way too high to really understand it. the next day i thought more about it and realized how sick it was. I'm pretty stoked for the show. Just cant get as high next time lol.

When they introduced Al Capone everyone i was with was like woooo! Al Capone!! and then missed the next min of the show lol

It just feels like HBO saw that mad men was getting acclaim so they were thinking of a way to create their own old school american show. Just me though.... Still excited for this weeks episode.

thats like saying AMC saw band of brothers so they decided to make a period drama too. aside from them both being set in the American north east, boardwalk empire and mad men are completely different. anyway, BE looks sick! that first episode got me way stoked for next weeks.

Meh, I kind of agree with the other guy. Just like Mad Men half of the fun of watching this show is going to be the attention to detail and the differences in technology, society, and way of life between the 20's and now. Band of Brothers and other historical dramas had less focus on this, at least in my opinion.

Again.... not hating. Just observations. It just seems like once a show does well shows that are similar spin off like BE. The opener was good, but they will sell me on purchasing the bluray with the next 2-3 episodes.
The reason mad men is SO good is its true and well written. It doesn't need guns or killing to make it interesting. Its refreshing to watch something like that so I just hope they build up enough creativity in the show that they dont need to rely on shooting someone in the face to make it interesting.

*spoiler*
Also..... Love that they beat the crap out of the husband and threw him in the ocean (as said above). Also didn't think they would pin the killing of the truck drivers on him so that was legit.

Why did they kill the dude listening to the record though? I missed that part......

mad men takes place in the 1960s, and boardwalk empire is about the prohibition, in other words 1920. maybe they have a similar feel, or not, but they're not really relevant to each other at all.

Nice work. Makes a little more sense now.... I just didn't understand why Stevie B would have him killed but I guess that was my mind trying to put the story together. I should have stayed simple and figured that one out. Also..... Nice touch putting Al Capone in the story!

Are you retarded? How does a show about a 1960's advertising firm have anything in common with an early 20's prohibition drama series? The show pretty much fits right in with past HBO's style of making excellent drama series. 

If anything, and barely at that, boardwalk empire would be trying to capitalize on the crowd that watched the soprano's.

I feel like it was a good ending to the season, but it didn't leave me screaming DAMMIT I NEED THE NEW SEASON NAOW!!! like let say, the season finales of Dexter or Sons of Anarchy tend to.
