Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

When i was younger I used to read all the Harry Potter books and it's been awhile since i've picked up one of them but I've seen all the movies and they're decent but pretty boring now that I'm older. I went to the midnight show of the 6th movie and fell asleep halfway through because it just wasn't interesting. But i have to admit, the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 looks pretty dope. They are making it into two parts because it would be a shit movie if they tried to squeeze it into one movie. What are you guys thoughts on the new movie? Do you think it will be good? Here's the preview for anyone who hasn't seen it:




On top of all of that, Emma Watson is smokin hot. Besides the fact that she cut her hair. (Saw that in another NS thread)

It's going to be shit like every other Harry Potter movie. They just did not do a good job with them, absolutely butchered the book.

movies 1 and 2 - awesome

everything else - terrible. they switched directors, and changed the entire look of hogwarts, turned it into a romantic comedy with a little action. when i saw 6 i wanted to punch babies

While I do agree with you(I fucking loved Redwall and LoTR when I was younger and still do) Harry Potter is really fun for a quick read(I mean the whole 700+pgs in 4 hours)

@El_Gato I actually totally agree with you on the ending. I truly thought that Harry was going to die and that's how the story would end but in the modern day we have become accustomed to happy ending, so she couldn't bring herself to let people down like that. I feel a lot of people would of been mad at her for making Harry die because it's just not what we're used to.

Yes, the movies are shit but I truly think this one will be good. 1 and 2 were good, 4 was pretty good but 3, 5 and 6 blew chunks. I don't know about the first part of 7 because i think they will need to set the story up so there probably won't be much action but the second part will be EPIC. It will be an encore for the generation of kids who read these books when they were younger and that are now becoming adults. We grew up to this story so they better reward us for spending time reading and watching this

Redwall sucked ass.

LOTR on the other hand is was and for ever will be epic. I can't believe you mentioned redwall next to it.

As to harry potter, I started reading when I was 7 and the first book came out. I read every subsequent book as soon as it came out up till 6th. 1-4 I had read so much that I can still recount some parts word for word. I couldn't really begin to tell you what happend in the 5th 6th or 7th books. I read them but just because I had read all the other ones. The story and the writing style that had so appealed to me at 7 wasn't nearly as captivating 10 years later at 17.

i read the first one as a young on' and then read the rest of them as they cam back and watched all the movies. yea i'll watch it

IMO books 1-4 were so much better than 5-7. And with 5-7, it just gets worse with every sequential book.

I don't really remember reading 1 cause I was pretty young, 2 and 3 were pretty good. 4 was really good, my favorite out of 1-4. As for 5-7, 5 and 6 were pretty boring but I found 7 to be very good. I read the whole thing in about a day on a car trip.

ya, but they still made the movies pretty dece, like The Philosophers Stone, and The Chamber of Secrets, were bang on, didnt miss a detail, and the 3rd movie was just awesome. So i guess they have all been pretty good

I agree, The Goblet of Fire was definitely the best in the series followed by 1,3 and then 2 in that order.

Even though Harry dying in the end would have been better, you don't have to be ignorant about the whole series. The books are the bomb, and the movies are just there for fun.

I like her style of writing. Whether you thought the books were cop outs or not (I really didn't like the whole extra story Deathly Hallows thing in Deathly Hallows), she still got kids to read again, and she put forth a decent product, which is more than any other writer can say these days. Not even Dan Brown.

i'm going to go see it for the same reason i read all of the books.

already saw the majority of the films, so i may as well keep going to the end. I think it was one of my elementary school teachers who read the 1st books to us all, and that basically unwillingly dragged me into them.

all in all they are a fairly entertaining read. Not some sort of literary masterpiece, but not absolute shit either.

and if you think this the end of harry potter, you are sorely mistaken. Rowling isn't done making money off new products yet. Not necessarily books, but new things will come out. (all the books/movies sets, etc etc)

The plot structure of Harry Potter is pretty much taken directly from Tolstoy's War and Peace. I'm not making that up: she even used some of the same character names. The ending takes place in the way it does because that's how Tolstoy did it. Happy ending in W&P, happy ending in HP. You hating on Leo Tolstoy for not killing off all the characters?

Also, Harry can't die off because the story is what's known as a bildungsroman.

Power is meaningless. Those who seek power are to be ignored, not hated or contested. Love is the world's crucial force. In War and Peace, the power-hungry asshole is Napoleon; the power-hungry wannabe is Boris Drubetskoy. in HP, it's Voldemort and Draco Malfoy. Voldemort and Napoleon are defeated by the realization that their power isn't real. Boris and Draco end up washed-up and useless, and the main characters (Harry and Pierre) don't even bother with them.

The real ending is when Harry and Pierre become comfortable relinquishing power and focus on love. That's why the epilogues of both books are about family and children.

Why am I talking about this on a freeskiing website?

I read all the books religiously as a younger kid, i have to say that 6 was my least favorite, but the rest were pretty dece.

as for the movies, 1 and 2 were amazing, perfectly with the book... 3 worked out alright and 4 was annoying, but 5 and 6 made me lose my faith in the film industry. 

don't remember redwall at all, cuz i was like 7 when i read it, but LoTR is fucking amazing, can still recite all the movies by heart.
