Basic interwebz/webhosting question

inb4 your mom, some genius stating that "ns is not the best place for asking this", blablabla i dont even care

so, peoples of the sun, somehow the local skiclub wants me to make a website for some skirace. idk why they think i can do this (actually i can, learned it in school, but never said that i am a webdesigner or whatever), but who cares.

so i have a basic framework going on. joomla is easily good enough for that shit. site is pretty ready, i bought a webspace with php and mysql today, got a ad-free subdomain.

so i uploaded two (just to be sure) testpages with index.htm and index.html with FTP. but when i enter the same ip as i used for the FTP-shit with HTTP (as its said in the mail from the hoster), i get some error message, the same as when you enter www.asdjhsad
