So integrity, honesty, and even the soldiers themselves - are thrown away to make sure other soldiers are comfortable? We have discharged more than 15,000 soldiers (rarely has it ever been a case of telling) because the army actually actively pursues investigations into a soldier's sexuality if it is questionable. You've heard about how gay soldiers aren't allowed to email their partners for fear of being discovered, right? That's because the government monitors all outgoing conversations, be it email or telephone, for any hint of homosexuality. The government has repeatedly broken it's promise to not ask.
As for unit cohesion, the Pentagon shows that openly gay soldiers have barely any effect on unit cohesion, and that in battle, openly gay soldiers are up to 33% more effective in battle than their closeted counterparts. If you don't want to shower with the guys, suck it up. You have bullets flying at your face all day, your friends dying around you, and you're worried about some guy eying your junk? Get fucked.
As for the soldiers themselves, it's incredibly disrespectful to simply assume that these professional soldiers, who are trained to withstand battle conditions, and are taught the values of honor, discipline, and integrity on a daily basis, are going to become sex-crazed stereotypes.
