Canon HV40 - its a nice little cam. I need a new tripod though.
Hey Man, I too was considering the Nikon d3100
I also Considered the canon t2i, 60d, Pentax K-r, Nikon D90 and the sony a33
I have pretty much settled on the sony a55. Alot of people say that Sony has few lenses but their dslrs are compatible with old Minolta maxxum Lenses. I just ordered a 70-210 all metal (f4) 'beer can' for $150 and a 50 1.7 prime for $50. These lenses are compatible with Auto Focus.
Reasons why Im getting the a55 over the competition.
10fps
1080p 30fps (sadly no 720p 60fps like the t2i)
Phase detect autofocus (so fast to focus in video)
Smaller size
Check out this Vimeo video all shot with the a55. It does only go up to 17mbps bitrate whereas the 7d etc go up to 24mbps but it looks amazing.

unfortunately I cant seem to embed the vimeo video. But copy and paste it because its worth a watch. I also have a go pro hd for pov pow tree skiing. Fuck yeah.
I wouldnt be suprised if they add 720 60fps when they update the firmware at Photokina next week. They are going to offer more manual control over video. In fact theyll probably offer 24p at the same time. Rediculous tracking on AF though, so, so fast in optimal light.
