I searched but it wasn't immediately clear and it takes less time to post here than actually look through a bunch of websites. I figure someone here has to be taking an english class in HS or something.

Conjunctions link phrases or clauses. And, or, but, etc.
The words you listed are transition words, and not very good ones at that.

No I'm editing some marketing material which was written by my fluent but non native english speaking boss. Just checking some small grammer points which I too had forgotten years ago.

They're pseudo-adjectives, and they shouldn't be used.
First(ly), they're adjectives because they modify the subsequent clause. The best way to think of this is that you're leaving words out. When you say "Firstly," what you're really saying is, "I have multiple points. My first point is. . ."
So the "first" really modifies the "point."
But you can see how complicated that is, which means it's not really good grammar. Try to eliminate the words by creating a list-type sentence structure. "These are the reasons for so-and-so: (first reason), (second reason). . ." This isn't always possible, but you should try.
Second(ly), you shouldn't use those words because "first" means the same thing as "firstly," looks less weird, sounds less pompous, and uses fewer letters. Simplify.
i liek grammar.

Pseudo-adjective? Like an adverb?

Nope. As in, the adjective modifies something which isn't even in the sentence, because it's implied. Example:
Person A: "What did you think of Sammy's triple?"
Person B: "First, I thought he could have gotten another rotation in. Second, Sammy is disgusting."
You could replace "First" and "Second" with "First point" and "Second point." So "First" and "Second" are adjectives, modifying the implied "points." I'm calling them pseudo-adjectives because it's not really proper to modify something that doesn't actually exist in the sentence. Which is what makes it grammatically shaky.

Okay, anyway, I like the sound of that: pseudo-adjective. I'm starting to call them such from now on.
